Hmmm, that is odd, just tried on mine and no go either. I've put my Nikon speedlight into the shoe before and I'm pretty sure that worked... strange as the pin looks the same..
What I usually do with the Yongnou is just set them to slave mode and fire them with the pop-up RX1 flash. That way you can hold them further off camera which is always helpful, and the RX1, even with a grip, really isn't too comfortable with a big speedlight in the shoe

Agreed. I was just playing with it and noticed that it wouldnt fit. Probably something to do with the accessory pins at the front of the hot shoe. Ill probably try my various flash triggers to see how they sync up if I can.

When using flash I mount my (relatively) cheap Cactus v4 trigger to (on?) the hot shoe. It works fine and I never got a reason to believe the pin-out isn't the usual standard layout and the extra accessory pins in the front to be out of the way.
Your Yongnou problem... maybe it is about tolerances (both the camera and the flash connectors?

Haha, no surprise. At the time I complain (not even a complain, I should say imply) about she leave out tripod there alone, she was more angry than me and said I should have my value system re-checked.
Sorry for miss your post and reply late.

Here's a recent shot from Maui on the southern road around Mt. Haleakela. I really like this shot, but am struggling with handling the shadows. Should I go lighter or darker that what is currently shown?

I think you need to lighten the whole image as I think the midrange is too dark, then maybe pull back the highlights depending on what happens to the sun ... straighten the horizon too

I really do think the 35/2 is the best overall lens I've owned, and I've owned a ton of glass. Its sharp across the frame without being clinical, its got nice micro-contrast and "pop", and its focus transition and overall way of rendering is just so darn smooth.
The images in this thread show that the the RX1 has a very fine lens. I've seen so much great work from this little camera. Is there any lens that could be mounted on the A7 series that would come close? If not the FE 35, then perhaps the CV 35/1.2II? Or some other?

I would probably straighten the horizon somewhat, but I disagree with the advice to brighten the midtones and pull back the highlights. Definitely do not, in my opinion. I think you've got it near perfect. The midtones and shadows should be dark here. The highllights should be bright, much brighter than the road. If you alter that relationship, it will look HDR-ish and messed up.

If by close, you mean really close, I think the short answer is that many knowledgeable people on this forum don't think so. There's a lot of info in this thread:

Maybe its the fact that Im not looking through a viewfinder but I really am pushing my compositions due to this camera. Perhaps for the good or perhaps not.
