Since that LCD should have pretty good viewing angles, you might want to try what I do with the NEX's flip up screen, and hold the camera chest level with your elbows at your side.
The RX 1, has a fixed LCD, so it is not as easy to find the best viewing angle in sunlight. I will be comfortable with a OVF though for composing and maintaining a good position for cam stability. This has obviously become more of an issue with FF, and high res sensor! I am sure Sony, tried to package the smallest possible FF cam, so I am thankful for this

Charles,
I suggested using a tripod for test only to see if the blurriness is caused by camera shake, not AF error. charles.K wrote:
Vovkinson, interesting! A tripod would get rid of this camera shake issue, but it may well be relearning the best method to hold the cam when the shutter speed is at 1/80s.

I have tried increasing the shutter speed to 1/125s and more, and there is much less of a problem, so I would assume the problem lays with my technique! I will test with the tripod, when I have more time though. The AF I have found excellent, so long as you are mindful of it and where you need the critical focus point. When in doubt use the MF, which works very well.

Shots from this morning. I have been noticing sometimes shots do not appear to be sharp at f/5.6, when viewed at 100%, and may explain why some people have been thinking that the cam is unsharp at infinity. I have concluded this is due my camera holding technique @ 1/80s. With the M9 I can hold the camera to 1/15s, but with the RX 1, holding away from the body, the min shutter speed may well have to increased. This I assume is due to technique, and I may opt for a OVF to improve this
When I'm using a camera with out a VF (like my RX 100) and framing with the rear LCD and arms in front of me, I loop the camera strap around my neck and extend my arms until there is tension on the camera strap which greatly stabilizes the camera. I fine with this technique I can use even slower shutter speeds than with a VF and camera pressed against my head. (Sorry if you've already tried this.)

Yeah, I know, but I don't mean that you should but the LCD right under your chin. I was thinking that you'd hold it out in front, with your arms at your sides, so that your kind of looking down at the screen at a 45 degree angle.

Thanks Jeff and Doug I will definitely try these techniques too. No excuses for sloppy technique with a small cam!!

Martin, a fantastic quartet! I would have een more than proud to hand 3 & 4 on my wall and look at my own prowess! My feeling is that N°1 leans just a bit to the left. Is it is a case of too much vinglög on my part?

Charles, I had a similar issue with my NEX cameras, where holding a lightweight cam in a position where I can view the LCD is not, for me, conducive to good stability. With the NEX, I hold it a waist level and flip up the screen. With the RX1, chest level, as indicated by Douglas was already better, but my best results were when I used the EVF and looked down into it, and I went safely down below 1/1.

Thanks Charles.K and Philber! Unfortunately I don't think they would look good in larger format (on a wall) because of the high ISO. Still the RX1 fares better than my D700 in that respect. And yes, the first one is obviously a bit tilted. I didn't notice before.
Edit: On the shutter speed problem, I focus with the LCD and then frame the image with the optical VF if I have to use a slow speed, to get stability. It feels a bit odd since it gives me worse framing accuracy, but it'll have to do until the EVF comes (haven't heard of a single one reaching Sweden yet).
And Charles, I would try not compressing the files that much. It looks like you get an awful lot of JPG artefacts, at least in the first one. Try doubling the size (~1 meg).

Martin, really like the 3 & 4th shots from your last post. Excellent!
Charles, the rendering on the 1st shot is very nice.
Mortyb, excellent shot with the branches. I think I missed your post earlier on.
Hooligan, nice set, the 3rd shot is my favorite. How do you like the RX1 so far? I recall you had a X1 sometime back right?
This lens seems to perform really well up close and wide open. I'll need to find some time see how it performs at mid distance and infinity. As good as the lens is, I'm still somewhat disappointed that it has so much barrel distortion especially with the Zeiss name on it but it seems like I the only one complaining?

I'm really embarrassed...those are rx100 shots , I misread.
I love the 100. I'm not sold on the rx1 yet but need more time. Files can be impressive but, I don't know that the file quality is worth the money they're getting when coupled with no hybrid af and accessories for a prince.
When I look back some of my fav shots are from the x1... It just took a minute and a half to decide where to focus. It did improve with firmware.
I'd guess the x1 sensor lens was better matched than the rx1. I feel let down a bit when shooting farther off. As you so rightly stated.
You're not the only one complaining and they definitely are struggling with QC too. The Leica lems in the x1 was just sharp from corner to corner.
Sorry for the pocket cam infiltration!
