I invite you to visit Israel. You'll be very useful here.

Happy shooting,
Yakim.

Thank you. I will come back to your offer as soon I get together the money for the flight. Its not the only place, but a good one to start.

I'd love to see you here but you'll have to be cautious. You do remember what happened to the last guy who wanted to spread love in this region, do you?

Happy shooting,
Yakim.

Hey Ralph, I can't help but think that Yakim is talking about a much "Higher Power" than Ronny Edry.
But, thanks for the link to the Ronny Edry, that was a really nice way to start my day!!! His sincerity seems genuine...
I wonder if his video was made with the Tamron 24-70 f/2.8 VC and a Canon camera?

The resolution test (5Dc was used for the test) in the following website looks reliable (comfirming what I experienced):

http://dc.yesky.com/124/31087624_2.shtml (Scroll down to the result table near the end of the page)

(resolution in lines: >2000 = Excellent; > 1500 = Very good; > 1000 = Good; >750 = average )

Column 1: Focus length and aperture
Column 2: Center/horizontal
Column 3: Center/Vertical
Column 4: Margin/Vertical
Column 5: Margin/Horizontal
Column 6:Average Resolution

Decided to keep T24-70 VC, let my EF 17-40 F4.0 go and get a Rokinon FE14M-C 14mm F2.8 for ultra wide landscape.

I am very interested in this lens as well. Would really appreciate a review when you have had a chance to use and evaluate it.

Thanks

I'll leave review for experts. I have updated photos at the top. I may have some model shots this weekend.

Unfortunately, Cokin filter holder can block the corners when using wide angle.
24mm @F8 (HDR, Cokin filter holder + GDN filter, no crop):

At 24mm f/2.8, lens is much sharper on the edges than the center

At 50mm f/2.8, lens sharpness is uniform at the center and edges.

At 70mm f/2.8, lens is very sharp at the center but not very sharp on the edges.

Hmmm... very weird

This may be the reason why Canon and Nikon chose not to make an IS/VR 24-70. There may not be room for enough glass and image stablization too for the optical formula to yield sharp corner edges. Canon and Nikon would have been excoriated for this kind of opticsal performance for $1800 or $2300 while Tamron can produce a feature and value priced lens for their market.

For me this would be a speciality lens-useful for low light shots mandating a slow shutter speed. However, since the longer end of the zoom would benifit most this lens would be most useful at 50-60mm since you could get all the Canon/Nikon IQ at (and IS/VR) at the short end of their 70-200 zooms.

I remember reading or hearing CW saying that they refrained from putting IS in the 24-70/2.8 II as it would negate the size and weight reduction objective.

Happy shooting,
Yakim.

Yakim was talking about the Zohan I think and you don't mess with him.

True, but a great one should cost $2799 (EF 24-70 II price + IS price)

Wow. How insightful! How much did Canon pay you to post that? Or do you have samples/specifics to back up your claim?

It's important to remind ourselves that we live in an era where mindshare is everything and companies pay people to trash talk competing products on forums such as this.
