The vignetting looks atrocious, still, though, interested to see more from this lens.
Given it's got an 82mm filter, I would have thought it was designed to minimise vignetting. That's pretty bad and much worse than the 28-75 f/2.8 wide open at 75mm.

Bokeh looks great on this lens. Typical tamron. They've always made exceptional optics, it's just that their autofocus has been a step behind canon/nikon in the past.

Thanks for the posted pics and comments, they are helpful to those of us curious about the lens as well as those unwilling to buy and do their own legwork.
The OP owes us nothing, he's just being as helpful as he knows how, so I'd suggest some of you guys choose an attitude of gratitude a little more, and appreciate the effort to help you, a total stranger on the internet.
There are people behind every screen name....let's treat them like we were face to face.
OP...if you get the chance to shoot some 24mm, I'd throw my request out as well, and if you're up for it, a good test would be wide open, 5.6, f8, and say f16, as for some reason I've heard that this lens doesn't suffer from diffraction as much as we'd normally see. f16 at 70mm would be interesting too of course.
Lastly...is there any chance you could take some night shots wide open or at f4, with light sources in the background so that we can see the bokeh and what happens in the blurry areas when a lamp or headlights or streetlights or whatnot are in the background?
Thanks man, appreciate the sharing, this lens is on my short list as well, although for Nikon for me.
Oh...someone asked for full size RAW's or JPEGs....if you want to do that and don't know how to do that just open up a flickr account at www.flickr.com.

1/2 sec, handheld (no crop).
I know this is not a serious work and I should use a tripod. There is actually some blur on rocks in 100% view. So, you don't have to comment negatively http://tualatin.webhop.org/lens/test15_half_sec.jpg

How interesting - I'm curious to learn more about your concept of "great looking" bokeh, and how rings of onion fit into that definition
I think as far as lens faults go, "onion bokeh" is one of the lowest on my list. And one of the simplest to correct in post production with a simple blur brush.

These are all great, and a big thanks for you taking your time out to post these, but what about the AF and VC?
What lenses do you feel comfortable drawing comparisons with? If it performs even on par with my Tamron 70-300 VC (in both AF and VC) I know I'll be buying.

Not great, but "interesting" blur.
Maybe blur with some character is more appropriate.

I still wonder about the severe vignetting on p.1.
Me too.
It is simply atrocious and I quite can't understand it. It's like the lens is not even meant for full frame cameras.
And it comes with a 82mm filter thread!
However, to further mystify it, it doesn't show nearly as bad in any of the other samples the OP posted.
In fact, if you are not looking for it, you don't even notice it.
That incredibly high level of vignetting (and maybe never seen before on any other lens) should be clearly visible under nearly, if not all, circumstances.
However, it's not.
And that is puzzling.
Again, big thanks to the OP for doing this, in spite of the remarks made by some.

Thank you for 24mm, 38mm and that 70mm brige bic at 2.8.
I like the bokeh. And I like the IQ. And I like the 5 year warranty Tamron offers in germany. I will test this lens (against Canons 2.8 L) as soon as possible. If AF speeds "feels" acceptable and IQ fits my expectation, this might be a good choice over Canons 24-105.
