Well, those of us D4 pre-orders in the UK are getting completely raped.
The D4 has been bumped to £5,289 from £4,800. If I buy one from the US it'll cost me just over £3,800. I fu*king hate this shite country. And, to make things even worse the D800 has gone from £2399 to £2599.
Fu*king robbing bastards. Apparently Nikon are using a bullsh*t excuse that there was a 'systems error'.
Ha ha. Fair point mate. The 5d3 is still £2,999. If I had some Canon glass I would be tempted.
I feel violated. I've waited 3 months already and they've just pushed the D4 beyond my reach. To say I'm gutted is a massive understatement. This has ruined my day.
Maybe not the right choice of words but you don't realise what I've been through to get to the point where I could buy this camera. I have saved for months and it was a 30th birthday (my birthday was middle of feb when the camera was supposed to ship) present to myself, and the last big blowout I will ever be able to afford as my partner and I have just bought a house and are having our first child in 5 months.
My partner encouraged me to buy it as she knew I'd never get the chance once the little one arrives. I have been excited for months and now there is no way at all I can find the extra £500.
So hopefully you can understand why I am so so disappointed.
I would be upset as well, don't get me wrong. You are right to be annoyed. I just am saying...it is, after all, just a camera. Have few beers and life will look better.
Also - don't think the house and kid will be the end as far as toys are concerned. I had the same fear. In a few years, after the cash flow looks a little better, you will be shopping again. Trust me.
That does suck. Sorry to hear about your bad luck. Jerry has a valid point.. it's just a camera. I am sure the price will come down. Look at the bright side, you have a d7000 and some great lenses already...
Thanks guys. I am trying to be positive but there's so much more to the story than you realise. I have had an incredibly difficult time in the last 3 years, struggling with depression among other personal and family problems. I sank to the lowest place I've ever been and when I managed to claw myself back to normality I set myself a few goals and worked so hard to achieve them. The D4 was my big prize and coincided with my 30th birthday too. It has always been my dream to own the D4 and it's just been pulled from my grasp, and I was so close. I ordered mine on the 6th January and have been disappointed with the constant delays and just when I'm 2 weeks away from getting it this happens.
I know it's just a camera but it meant so much more to me. Maybe I'm being sad but I am really very gutted.
After an item has been ordered at XX price it is morally wrong to charge more for said item. I don’t think they can do this in the USA but I am not really sure.
Is there a reason you need the D4 over the D800, I ask this because I have had my D800 for a few days now and it has been much more than I had hoped for, it leaves my D3 in the dust except for frame rate.
Also if you don’t need the video the D3s is very close to the D4.
There probably is other options for you.
Dennis
Dennis, The terms and conditions of a sale in the UK mean that only a contract of sale is made once goods have been exchanged in place for money. Therefore a pre-order is nothing more than an intention to buy goods and an intention to supply goods. Until they take payment and ship the goods there is no contract in place and the retailer can change the price, cancel the order or pretty much do what they like.
I agree that it seems morally wrong but since when did a retailer give a poop about morals? It's all about pounds and pence.
The D800 does not appeal as I do not want or need 36mp. The 4fps is not enough for me and the sheer versatility of the D4 covers me for every situation I would be up against.
James, I have not looked into euro prices yet. When spending so much money I always prefer to use local retailers in case I have problems.

Try to be positive - a philosopher once said the two worst things in life are not having your hearts desire and having it. You've got a child on the way which should be the first prize. Whatever happens it's better than being in Syria.
I am sorry you have had a tough time of it lately. We have all been there (or will someday). However, again, check your perspective. You are a lucky man to have a person who loves you and a child on the way. That is your big prize, not some nifty camera.
That being said...I am sure the D4 will come your way at some point soon.

I can't describe how incensed I am right now.
Personally, I feel the same way. Systems error or not, the price should never have been this high in the first place. What are they thinking? I'll tell you what they are thinking.... ooh, so many pre-orders and Canon is more expensive, hey guys we can charge more and there's nothing they can do! Screw-em!

Yeah, I'm pretty outraged right now. Nikon has pulled a fast one fr sure. I always speculated that the D4 would never be available for February and I'm thinking their early announcement and promised low price was all a strategy to get more pre-orders and to tempt Canon users. Once they fulfilled their planned order intake they announce bullshit delays and then a price increase.
Not Nikons finest hour and personally I think it's disgusting. How can you claim a 'system error' as the cause for an incorrect low price but only realise after 3 months of announcing the product and taking thousands of orders. Bullshit.
