Well, those of us D4 pre-orders in the UK are getting completely raped.
The D4 has been bumped to £5,289 from £4,800. If I buy one from the US it'll cost me just over £3,800. I fu*king hate this shite country. And, to make things even worse the D800 has gone from £2399 to £2599.
Fu*king robbing bastards. Apparently Nikon are using a bullsh*t excuse that there was a 'systems error'.
I can't describe how incensed I am right now.
i'm not sure i am getting your post . . . are you frustrated/angry
Just spoke with Mr Retail Director and he tells me that so far they have been able to honour pre-order customers at the original price. He said that he is confident that this will continue but is waiting for further communication from Nikon.
His words, 'someone in Nikon is in a considerable spot of bother right now'.
REALLY hope it works out for you. I can understand your anger and frustration after feeling so close to getting what you want - with all you've been through lately! The D4 is a VERY SLICK piece of gear. To almost have that stolen right out from under you like that ... But it sounds like things ARE going to work out for you. Keep us informed of the progress.
You could buy the camera if at original price and resell, then buy a used D3s. Might have enough cash leftover for a flash. At any rate, I'm glad I don't live in Europe and have to pay those confiscatory tax rates. That's the true outrage. Guys in my country once picked up their rifles and once started shooting because of British taxes.......
So let me get this straight, there is a video tax that was omitted originally? So that's why the prices went up? To compensate... Sheesh. Here's a hint: immigrate to Canada
Thanks Diggler. And you're right. What good is camera without illuminated buttons? Lol.
Kent, our taxes are just plain nasty. 20% on everything we purchase, but if you're talking cigarettes and fuel (gas I think you call it) then I'm guessing on top of the VAT of 20% probably 50% or more of the price is taxe to the government.
So, it was a system error....really.....? Did the new software they installed not have the checkbox that said
[ ] Screw the people in the UK - Check here
....and then they got the software update and realised they needed to check the box?
C'mon guys, it really shouldn't be THIS much more expensive should it? And, if things are in free circulation in the EU shouldn't be illegal not to support (for warranty) any product legitimately purchased anywhere in the EU ?
complain to your government not here, that they let them self being controlled by media industry.
once you are there, throw info about CD burner tax, hdd tax and so on and so forth

Well, the problem is not tax alone. Take off the tax and the 'before tax' price is still MUCH higher - like $7,200 instead of $6,000. WHY?
