Thanks Jerry. You'll find a full resolution version on my website, once Smugmug comes back to life (They're having some technical difficulties at the moment...). Go to "New Additions."

Good Morning Peter!

JRomie: Really like your work, and welcome to the thread

Peter: Great images of the swan pair & staggared P's in-flight; really a treat as usual

Tenn.Jer: Great work with the 500mm

Heading back east Monday, need to see more green than what is (was) in the beer .

Two from the return trip out of the desert...

Regards,

Edd

Long sigh...longing for spring up here in Anchorage after seeing everyone's photos. We are a few inches from record snowfall. The moose too, I think, are ready.

Edd, good to see your pics again; they must be keeping you busy out there in Area 51...

Jerry: Really nice shot out the back pasture of the rainbow... the TS-E was used because...? Just curious... Also, the shot below is for you (from WPAFB a few years ago)

JohnnyMike in Alaska: Great shot of the "local" moose...are they that relaxed? I will be heading up your way in May for a short visit, so I hope the snow isn't too much at that time.

Peter: I sent the link of the swan photos back to my wife while they were still up...she loved them, and said you should have them framed and up on the wall (if you still have room!)

See you all again later this week!

Regards,

Edd

Nice shots everyone. No spring here yet, just rain and sleet. On the plus side it looks like i might be up and properly mobile once spring does come, as they've offered me surgery on my bad back tomorrow. I guess i'll also be "doing an Edd" and dropping offline for a few days. Hopefully i'll be back later in the week. Happy shooting all.

Edd,
The Tilt-shift lens was already mounted on my 5DII, and I just grabbed it and headed out back to catch the light before it changed. Ordinarily I would probably have used the ol' reliable 24-105, but spring storms can move so fast I didn't want to take the time to dig it out and attach it. Besides, the 24TS-E is so incredibly sharp, and the manual focus is not a problem for my old tired eyes in such a wide-angle shot...

I only recently acquired it, and I've found it to be a slow painstaking process to actually use it for what it is intended - for me, a little down-shifting to increase depth of field from my feet to infinity. It produces incredible results in that regard, but I've also just snapped off a few handheld when focus isn't critical...

Thanks for the IFO pic; I remember the flying wing and turbo-fan experiments, but that one looks like the museum techs just wanted to have fun with visitors. (I was just kidding about Area 51, please don't send investigators to Tennessee... I'll keep quiet... )

At the very least, around Anchorage, the moose are indeed very relaxed. Even during rut, the majority could care less about the humans moving about in close proximity.

Regarding the snow, as this is my first winter up here, I cannot say when the snow melts typically. What I feel safe saying though is that I am certain that you will see a moose here in Anchorage. Most certainly, your best bet is Kincaid Park.

Still no flowers blooming here yet, but our state bird is back in great numbers (1dIIn and 500mm F/4.5)

Might as well throw a black duck into the post as well

Good Early Evening,

Jess & Jerry: You guys are too funny, and thanks...

15Bit: Jools, I hope things work out real well for you to "Get Vertical" again...Godspeed on the recovery...

Psychic1: Really nice shots of "The Parade"...must have been a great time.

Johnny: Thanks for the info, I will keep the park in mind and see if the travel fits into my schedule. I'm trying to get to Seward and Talkeetna within three days of each other, weather permitting.

Time to pack, then a few hands of poker; the rest stays in the desert...

Regards,

Edd

Mute swans are back on the lake in large numbers. Alas, they are not one of my favourite targets, partly because I can seldom get them with a nice background, whether they fly or swim. However, once they start fighting and chasing one another, then they get my attention.

Hello Peter,
Ralph asked me to put in this pic of our cat "Sammy". One can not see, it is spring, but the shot was done an hour ago.

Yvonne, welcome to the forum, I think Sammy is a very cool cat with those piercing eyes, and the photograph itself is done really well.

Yes Sammy is very cool. Yvonne is cool, too. Ralph is not.
I did some really nice shots of Sammy and some children playing on the street. I deleted them all because I did in in "HI2"! I did a test yesterday to compare 5D IIs Hi2 to 5D IIIs ISO 25k. And I forgot to switch it back!

So sorry, You have still to wait for my spring picture.

R.

That is good, because the only way in which we can recognize "cool" is to campare it against "uncool".
