Looks like I came across the hobbyist forum with all the wrongful complaining about prices. Canon will do just fine with the stated prices because they know their customers better than most.

Lars, get with the times. It's a modest improvement. Perhaps you aren't taking technological advancement and the timeline into consideration? Do you realize technology is advancing at an exponential rate? The camera is fine, but the price is way too high for a modest improvement.

It has more resolution than the 1DX and the same AF. Is that modest
Of course you have been complaining about everything in your last 50 posts

No, because ignoring VAT makes the comparison quite invalid.

In any case, if you're so upset over this, I believe there are a lot of flights from Heathrow to JFK and B&H is only a short hop on a tube from there... :-)

He still have to pay VAT so that doesn't help him

For my business .. the 5Dmkiii is a sweet camera.

Seriously people ... for those that live in the US ... you live in the land of over indulgence.
A little price increase and you are screaming.

and as for price increase - why would a new camera cost the same as an earlier model?

and for the marginal business ... why not work on the business than adding a new tool?
wait .... that is the sensible thing to do. Thats not fun.

i forgot ... we americans want our ice cream and cake.... my bad.

And i do get out of the country ... like

So, you are chiding us for wanting to be thrifty? We should not want value? We should gladly accept the asking price because this corporation is doing us a favor? We should not each evaluate a product based on our own needs and judge whether we think it is worth the cost? We should just assume that the corporation’s pricing is fair and just?

I do find it strange that when Canon raises prices it seems there’s no shortage of folks who feel they have to jump in to defend the company. If your phone bill goes up goes up, are you not unhappy about that? Or when gas prices go up, how come people don’t go around defending oil companies with the same zeal?

While I like some of their products, I’m not in the business of running a Canon fanclub and I am not a charity for any company, camera manufacturer or otherwise.

And what would you call your posts then? Complaining about someone else's opinion?? Maybe you work for Canon?

It is not the same AF as you will soon find out and it is a lot less then Nikon is offering at a lower price.........but you are right Canon will do just fine with this camera....because what they know is that they have a huge fanboy base that will praise and buy what ever they put out....

Canon knows that the initial buyers will be (not in any particular order):

Insecure photographers that think this camera will make them a better photographer.

Those with huge egos that want to have the latest and greatest to make them feel better, but can’t afford the 1DX.

Working photographers that can make use of the new features and have run their existing cameras into the ground because they use their cameras to make money (so can afford one).

After checking your profile I realize that you must be one of those in the fanboy base

But will the D800 drop by Christmas next year? If it's in the $2700 range by then, it starts to look even more appealing.

So Canon will drop 500 in 6 months and Nikon won't drop at all Very amusing statement. If that is true it will prove it is over priced....

Perhaps they do, but as a Nikon shooter who was inclined to move to the Canon 5D3 I find their pricing decision here (and with the 24-70 II) very puzzling and hardly an inducement to migration. Maybe they're going for exclusivity as opposed to market share.

I predict the D800 will be out of on-hand stock for at least a year. I don't predict the same for the 5DM3, at least not at $3500.

3500$ for the 5D3 ??...... the new features aren't worth 1500$ more than the 5d2 for me, I"m still going to use center focus point, I"m still going to shoot ISO 100-3200. I'd rather buy a new lens for the 1500$. THAT is really going to improve my photography

why complain if you only like to use one AF point and low ISO ? Just keep what you have then?

What the heck is so appealing about the D800? Am I missing something? 36 MP doesn't do anything for me, those files would be twice as big for 99% of the people that will be shooting with it. 4 fps is on par with the old 5D2. Less ISO range. Weaker AF.

Are you guys really that hard up for megapixels? Really??

$3500 is just too much for this camera and from what I'm reading on forums and social networking and hearing from my circle, Canon is going to sell 1/4 of what they would have if the camera came in at $3K. All this high pricing is just marketing hype of the strange kind. Keeping the 5D2 in production is purposely adding to the high price despite the face the 5D3 is precisely what the 5D2 should have been 2 years ago. A grip should not be almost $500 and a non-IS 24-70 should not be $2400. They're just trying

Canon is going to keep the 5D2 in the pipeline until they can sell all they have in stock. They will use the high introductory price of the 5D3 to keep the price up on the remaining 5D2s so they can maximize their profits.
