Anyone get an update from Profeel today? I spoke with them last night and I was told they would be shipping my camera out today but no tracking number as of yet.
FYI, Crutchfield.com has the body in stock with free shipping.
If you click through to crutchfield from Fatwallet for 4% cash back, and get the (automatic) 5% gift card from Crutchfield's reward system, that's $175 from Crutchfield and $140 from Fatwallet, for essentially $315 off the price of the camera.
Looking at it that way, $3150 shipped for a 5D MKIII is a killer deal.
I did this deal on the kit earlier in the week, and it's shipped - just waiting (im)patiently. They're out of stock on the kit, but body still appears to be in stock.
Why people are spending ~3800 inc. tax locally just boggles my mind, but maybe you guys are all richer than me.
Crutchfield has been around a long while selling car/home stereo and electronics. Before the internet, they were mail order catalog place.
I bought a surround sound processor from them a couple of years ago, they're helpful over the phone, but the tracking seemed a bit confusing since it didn't update until the day of delivery. This was for a $1500 item.
Thanks for the suggestion from a member here. I just did a search on ebay and a reputable seller was selling for $3499 plus he threw in a cheap camerabag, 3rd party battery, and 32 gig sd card. Be careful not to buy a 5d Mark ii for the same price... :o
Thanks for the Crutchfield tip. I just ordered my body from them, giving up on my B&H preorder at this point. They are a solid company to deal with and have great customer service. I used to buy a lot of my audio stuff from them, was surprised to find they still have my order history on line for purchases years ago. I recommend them to anyone.
Bummer. I checked Crutchfield earlier and it was listed "out of stock" ... then someone found one and capitalized on those great discounts! Slightly jealous.
However, I did just find one. There are reportedly three left (body only - didn't ask about kit) at MPEX (www.mpex.com) as of a few minutes ago.
Does anyone know the best way to cancel a B&H preorder? Just call? I can't find a "cancel" button anywhere when I login. Who knew they closed at 2pm on Fridays (That's a rhetorical question...)
I like B&H and think they have handled things fine. Although, I would guess the 5D3 frenzied, and likely their staff, would have benefited from a little status on the front page of their website...even if it said general things such as: "still waiting to receive our first shipment" or "first shipment being processed to pre-orders chronologically" or "first batch was shipped, if you didn't receive an email, our next shipment is expected next week" etc. But, retail is not my expertise, so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt on their approach. I recognize the world doesn't revolve around the 5D3. I think if they had given out specific info to anyone, they would have had TONS of calls which would have been pretty unproductive for their staffs' time, so I understand the No Comment approach.
I really only pre-ordered because I wanted one for some events in May and didn't know how supply/demand would shake out. However, I saw an opportunity to get one by a defined date and decided to take it!

you have to call them but it only takes a minute and they are very nice about it.
I just received tracking info from Profeel. I ordered late Wednesday morning. Body only. UPS ground. It's too early to track, but at least I know it has shipped.
PCNation.com has the 5D III bodies (non-kit) in stock right now. They are Canon authorized. Normancamera.com has the kit in stock. They're also Canon Authorized.

You must have gotten the last one ... out of stock now!
Might have been me, when I called they said "oh, you ordered just in time, we don't have any more now". Well, I owe somebody one then- if you're in NYC I will buy you a beer
Just got tracking number, they are really good to deal with. I am going to go with them again for the 500mm. The savings in tax alone vs B&H (I am in NY) will be huge, and I really like how friendly they were to deal with.
Walked into the local camera store today and walked out with a 5D III kit. I figured there would be a mad dash of the big stores, so called the little guys and they had one! Support your local camera shops!
