Yes, sell the 7D, especially if you already have the 1DmkIV. I have both 7D and 5DmkII and only the mkII very recently. Thought I'd run a 2 camera setup with the 7D for wildlife but the 5D's files are just sooooo much better that the 7D only benefits for tracking BIF and in reach limited scenarios. I've not touched the 7D since I've got the 5DmkII. I just preordered the mkIII from B&H as I can easily get by with 6fps and the rest of the benefits are staggering over the 7D or even the 5DmkII.

Meh.

While the 5DIII is the camera I've been waiting for, my 7D isn't going anywhere just yet. I just cannot justify the entry price of $3,500.

I also think you're overstating the IQ difference between the 5DII and the 7D ... I mean, the 5DII is better, but the IQ difference is only night and day in certain situations.

For most everyday/casual applications, the difference is almost immaterial.

I am right with you. I sold my classic last week in anticipation. now just need to wait to see some real samples. still deciding between this or nikon.

Same with their email service too, nowadays...

I have to disagree with this, I have had really great customer service from B&H recently, from Henry Posner replying to a packaging concern posting I made here on FM, to a recent return of a lens and me sending customer service an email to pay the extra for faster air shipping and having them reply with they would do that for me with no additional charge. So my replacement 14-24 lens will be shipped out 2nd day air.

To me, these are examples of great customer service!

+1 on B&H having great customer service. Of course, there are isolated incidences of employees misshandling a situation, just as there's customers that can never be made happy.....Jim

Well, interesting dilemma. I love my 5DMKII, but had to add a 7D for my sports shooting (needed more fps). Wondering if the new MKIII at 6 fps would be enough?

I started withe a 20D - 5 fps - it was ok, but I enjoyed the faster 40D I moved to.

Although I never bonded with the 40D, the faster frame rate was nice.

Sold both and moved to a 5DMKII. 4 fps wasn't really cutting it.

Picked up a 7D for the faster fps. This is another camera I haven't bonded with, so I won't miss it.

So, I'd like to sell the 5DMKII & 7D and move to the MKIII. I guess it will be similar to shooting with my 40D as far as fps goes.

I wonder what I would get for both those cameras? What are the used prices for 5DMKII & 7D at the moment?

20D - 5 FPS
40D - 6.5 FPS
7D - 8 FPS
5DMKII 4 FPS

5DMKII 4 FPS

Do a search in the buy/sell forum for a better idea depending on condition but the average price is roughly
5DII ~ $1800
7D ~ $1150

I have also just pre-ordered it. My thinking is that this is the "smart" man's 1DsIII. It promises to have all of the 1Ds III advantages - full frame IQ, dual cards (except for weather proofing) with the best video support currently available in the DSLR canon range (headphone monitoring, 30p/60p support, high-ISO performance), for now...

At almost half the price, I see no reason to buy the 1DX now that the 5DIII is here. This combines by 1DsIII and 5DII in a smaller package with no real drawbacks other than shorter battery life and weather proofing. Dual cards really make this match my current workflow using eye-fi cards and ipad monitoring of studio shoots. Heck at this price, I can get almost 2 5DIII for the price of a 1DX. If I want to shoot in the rain, I will most likely be shooting sports so the 1DIV is the go-to body for that anyway.

Can't wait to start shooting with the 5DIII.

Looks like a nice camera. Probably going to stick with my 5D II for now. I like the looks of the new AF system, but I was hoping the AF would be distributed over a larger part of the frame.

I have had my 5Dc for around 2 years not and cannot handle the focusing. I shoot weddings and receptions are impossible. I pre-ordered from Amazon and cannot wait for it. I thought about the D800 but I would rather have the better low light than megapixels.

This looks like a nice improvement, but a bit disappointed in the price.
The D800 has slightly better features and costs about 10% less, so I may end up going that route, even though 34Mpixel files will be HUGE.

I was an early adopter for the 5D and 5D II but I think I will sit this one out, because (a) I think it's overpriced, and (b) I do believe Canon will announce a new higher-megapixel body (3D form) later this year, probably in Photokina. I can then decide between the new body and a lower-priced 5D III - as I am sure the price will drop come September. If I pick up a 5D III now I won't be able to upgrade to the new body, so it makes a lot of sense (to me) to wait another 6 months.

Yeah, that's sort of my thoughts. Just sit and wait. Either this will get cheaper, or a better alternative.

$3500?! $500 too much, IMHO. I only a do this as a hobby and its very discouraging that the middle range is being pushed so far out.

Perhaps a used 1Ds3 is for me?

Try living in Australia, here its $4,200-$4,400 AUD. Thats another $1000 over what you US guys would be paying. Apparently they're stuck in the 90's before our dollar became stronger the the US dollar. I guess Canon Australia think they can rip us off because we're so far away from the rest of the world. Great business model Canon
