p.9 #1 · What Canon gear did you get for Christmas
Was looking for a portrait lens on the long side (85 f1.8, 100 f2, 135f2)...Got the 85L! I felt guilty ($$$) , so I took pics of kids/pets @ 1.2 and @1.8. Compared them, my wife told me: "I really prefer the smooth background @ 1.2, it worth it"...I guess I can not return it now :-)

What a fantastic gift!
Yes, it is. I finally got the battery contact cleaned of minor corrosion with a replacement and can't wait to push a roll of film through. I cleaned the camera body and mirror, nifty fifty from the sixties , filters, and finished the roll of film inside. The meter looks to be working with the new battery so I'm really excited now.

Lovely lens! Looks like you might send it back though?

A lump of coal as far as Canon gear goes. But in the months prior to Xmas I did buy myself a 70-200 MK 2 and some 580s so I am not too upset.

Well xmas started early. I picked myself up a 24L TS-E. Older model but as new condition. Works very well. Getting towards xmas got a better present of a Grandaughter. Born on the 22nd . Best thing ever since I shoot for NILMDTS and so it was a positive experience. On the day I got a 24-105 coffee mug. Only trouble is that people pick it up thinking it is a real lens. Fortunately, my tea stay's inside the cup. Then for some might appear a bad gift but I like it for a walk around and grab shots and that is the J1. Purposly left out the manufacturer.

A granddaughter - congratulations! What a wonderful Christmas gift. I'm sure you will enjoy that 24TS-E, but I hope you have a good portrait lens for shots of that baby

Thanks. Most of the shots have been on either the iPhone and 7D. I have quite a few lenses to choose from and mostly L's. 2 that are on the back burner are the 85 and 100-400.

Not a bad idea to wait, but were all those sales tempting
Very tempting I saw a Like New Pentax 645 D MF for 35% off regular, very tempting, thankfully after several days of seeing it someone else saved me by buying it.
Though I broke down and upgraded my Adobe Master Collection. I was going to wait until CS6 but they are changing their upgrade rules when CS6 comes out to allow upgrades only from the previous version,.... at least they gave 20% off.
