So it's sad the guy is dead and all but...I just wish people would stop talking about it on every single forum on the internet (even on a Battlefield 3 forum I checked earlier...).
B/c Steve Jobs is that unique and that far reaching.
He is one of the greatest CEO's and innovators to have ever lived. The fact he managed both is all the more amazing. All of the attention his passing is garnering is well warranted, imo.
Dan - Nobody can say it better as you have said ! Some people are just plain in-sensitive. What I don't understand is someone's need to comment on a post which clearly does not interest them. 'To ignore' is a virtue I guess
Most of us hang here in the Canon forum, and it's a place where important news is often spread. I'd also venture to guess that there is a near majority of apple users on this forum. Apple products are certainly quite popular in the creative field.
I don't usually pay much attn to the typical death news media, but I have to say its a bummer. He was definitely visionary. There are other visionaries that don't get the media spotlight still for sure (like people who think of Kamen for only the segway, SMH) but he was very good at what he did, all aspects.
Anyway, about the forum police...lighten up geez. A lot of canon photographers use apple products and this is their main board, it's one topic...stop complaining and move on to other topics if it bothers you.
Any time a Canon gear unrelated topic is injected into this board, a debate and even argument ensues.
Therefore, particularly in a clear cut cases like this, posters should consider "Forum and Misc." board or "General gear" board or "Postprocessing" board where this particular subject would have fit much better.
However, once it is here, might as well let it go without causing adversity because there is obviously a number of people showing interest in it as well as putting their two cents in.
If Fred decides the topic doesn't fit here, he'll move it elsewhere soon enough.
Pancreatic cancer is deadly. I am quite surprised he stayed alive for so long. I am no Applehead although I did make quite good money selling Apple computers (great margins!) to pay for tuition. Seeing Steve Jobs degenerated physically over the years is really really sad.
Can Apple is Steve Jobs and vice versa. It will be interesting to see how Apple will function in the ensuing years.
So I missed mentioning in a few different posts whether or not a thread belonged. (lr thread is no exception). However, looking back, you will see this is not just an "anti apple" opinion.
As far as I know, I'm faiy certain that steve was the driving force behind all of the apple products I own (my autocorrecting iPhone 4, my old iPhone 3, the wife and her old iPhone 3, the 4s that she will get shortly, our multiple iterations of iPods).
Don't confuse my stance on this as insensitivity to the death of someone.
I acknowledge that is is a crap thing to go through for anyone, especially his friends and family.
Interestingly enough, I have friends who share the steve stories as well. Let's be realistic, it is a bit like a 7 degrees of selaration.
If you didn't directly know him, or were involved in his life, the. You're not mourning anything.
Not being insensitive, being realistic.
I find it amusing how if it breaks the rules, as long as it suits you, it is okay.
I'm not going to say anything else about it, you're already trying to turn me into a villain, and Im certainly not that. I'm not some insensitive jerk who is happy someone died. I just don't think this is the place for it. We won't get into the merits of the "if you don'tike it don't look at it argument" and how a post like this could bump a canon related post to the 2nd page. Or how, maybe if you only frequent the canon forum, there's a reason for it.
I've broken rules in the past, and try not to in the future. You should try it too.
Robert, do you really think your "I sold my 5D" post in the Canon forum is more relevant than the death of a legend in the technology world who impacted most of our lives with his product? Should everyone post a thread when they sell a piece of gear so they can get a group hug from their forum buddies? Give it up, I would much rather see this thread in the Canon form than 99% of the other garbage.

Re-read what I said. I was very clear and you are now distorting what I said again. My *bottom line* was for you to please stop chain posting non-stop objections to my topic and report the topic as an abuse to the moderators. I made that perfectly clear. Please report the topic if you feel strongly about it. The call is up to the moderators. I have no problem with you making a report of abuse to the moderators. But I don't want to argue about it with you and neither does anyone else. You claim to be trying to uphold the rules but what you are doing is specifically against the rules.

And so are PCs in the majority of the world.... the thread should be moved....

I can't move the thread or delete it. That power was taken away from FM users years ago if you recall with Guy Mancuso deleted the Leica image thread along with it some of the best photos and collective knowledge FM ever had to offer. Since than users have lost permission to delete or move the thread. Guy was banned from FM.
Let me make this clear. If you have an objection to the topic and you want it moved or deleted report it as an abuse to the moderators please. Please stop chain posting all over this topic unless you have something relevant to say about the topic and you can be courteous, and polite.
Very well put. And a big thank you from me to Steve Jobs for all of his creativity and innovation.
My thoughts are with his family.

why not think of it as a celebration of a life we will never see the like of again?
Steve Jobs, I am still too in shock to comment further except to say a profound Thank You for s life very well lived and for making the lives of all of us richer
When asked where I was when I heard about Steve's passing, I'll always remember I was finishing some logo designs on an iMac and sending them for approval using apple mail... Both innovations of this great man. The world has lost the modern innovator of disruptive technologies.
He once said he was going to put a ding in the universe ... 'ding' a common alert sound on the Mac OS. Safe to say he left a dent in it.
For those of you who haven't seen his commencement address at Stanford a few years back, it is worth watching. I saw it today for the first time. It says a great deal about how he came to be the person we got to know through the products he inspired.
I noted a comment from someone on a Washington Post forum who said his life had never been touched by Steve Jobs because he never owned an Apple product. That is a remarkably stupid comment for the simple reason that innovations brought to market by Steve were copied all over the place, especially by Microsoft. Bill Gates made a smart business decision in buying $150 million worth of Apple stock after Jobs returned in 1997. If he kept it he made a boatload full of money since, as well all know, Apple became the most valuable company in the world. One doesn't need to denigrate either company to recognize that Steve Jobs was a visionary as well as a masterful marketer who touched all our lives. Those of us who HAVE bought Apple products understand the magic he realized. He will be sorely missed by the entire industry.

im a nobody here, so i expect this to be overlooked...but i really dont see what the big deal is about whether someone wants to post this or not. the title of the thread clearly shows what it is about...meaning it is clearly very easy to avoid...so...if it bugs you that much...simply dont read it.
i have been an avid apple user for years...since black screens and green fonts. the man is a genius and he changed the world whether one wants to admit it or not.
all of that aside though he is still a human being, like the rest of us. show a little respect or just leave it alone.
