I upgraded to a 500mm f4.5 so I must sell the 300mm f2.8 non IS. I haven't used the newer 300mm f2.8 versions, but I could say that the 300mm f2.8 is sharper than my 300mm f4 versions, 400f5.6 that I have. Autofocus is super fast as well. Even with the 2X attached sharpness is still excellent. I've been using it less than 5 times a year since I bought it used 3 years ago. Date code is UL.
Cosmetically it has paint wear on the body. Glass is clean, except there is a tiny drop of oil behind the front element. It doesn't affect performance of the lense in anyway, and if it's annoy you, you could get it cleaned at a local shop for $50 (the front element is just a protective filter so it's easy to open and cleaned).
Comes with match hood, hard case, soft front lense cover, rear cap, drop in filter and holder, strap.
Outstanding pictures. I have the 300 F4 IS that I use mostly for outdoor sports. I have been dreaming of having a 2.8. I have never used one, but can only imagine what it would be like on my 7D. Am I correct that IS is not desired if you are shooting action photography?
I may need to rent one of these to see how I like it. If the lens is still around in a few weeks I may be interested.
What happens if the lens needs service? Will Canon CPS work on the lens?
Driving from Brazil to California to pick up the lense is quite expensive. Why don't you just pay my asking price and I will ship it. Save u some time.

I have a non IS 300 2.8 and it is absolutely stellar, insanely sharp and fast, even though it's a UC date code, which, off the top of my head, is over 20 years old. Even with a 1.4x TC it is still very sharp and usable.
The downside is that CPS will not service the lens. Some people will, but then the hard part is finding the missing parts, which I heard are scarce. But on the other hand, if you have your gear insured, you should be fine.
