Well to answer your question on why I chose to comment on that particular photo I guess is because it stood out to me as being different from the rest.
Thanks Avi, I agree about it being art.
However I must agree that once seen are not easliy unseen.
Fair enough Peter. While this image stands out for you, to it's just one and the same taken with this lens for em. Again thanks for taking the time to comment.
There is art, and then there is art....
Some of the best photographer will tell you that getting one good shot out of a thousand is pretty good.... If we follow that rule
You must have've taken billions...
I shot a lot. And I find almost anything photo worthy, so yes, I have quie a few photo's. And matter worse/or better, I often shoot the same subject with more than one lens, and I have been known to also carry Leica film bodies and cover the same subject with them as well.
Perhaps it's over kill at times. I mean some of my pals ask me how many shots of"that" do you need. My answer is always the same. "Just one good one".
One wonders how long the 28/1.4 will retain its astronomical value; the 24/1.4 focuses closer (0.25 vs. 0.35m), has a newer optical formula that also includes ED glass and aspherical elements and is 1/3 less expensive than the 28. Reviews from those who've shot both imply that the 24 appears to be every bit as notable.
Wow Donald and Gregory. I have seen a bunch of your work on the MF thread but it appears you guys are pulling the most out of this legend of a lens. Both of you are consistently creating great captures with very different styles. Thanks for taking the time and sharing your work it is inspiring to those of us that are newer to this game.
As for when this lens will come down in price. I don't think it will. It is what it is and it won't be made again or duplicated. Doing things by hand in the old way is lost now, for those that appreciate this craft this lens is held in very high regard.
Thank for the bump pal. It's interesting I just checked keh and they had three of them not that long ago and now they only have one left
I thought it was funny that people thought with Nikon coming out with the Nikkor 24 1.4 and the Nikkor 35 1.4 AFS that the price of the Nikkor 28 1.4 AF-D would plummet. I don't ' see this happening anytime soon.. And I find it interesting that Nikon still hasnt come out with an updated version of this lens.
Clearly the bar was set so high with the original 28 1.4 AF-D version that they are reluctant to make another version that wouldnt measure up tho the original
Or perhaps they are saving the best for last and the new Nikkor 28 1.4 AFS is ready to be released.?
I know most people start pumping a lens before they sell it. Which always seemed funny to me. If it's so good why are you selling it? I assure you this is not the case here.
And a special thanks to Arther at Keh for saving me this copy some time ago and for Keh being very generous in the value of my trade in equpiment at the same time. Over the yerars Keh are the best guys ever to deal with and have provided me with much of my Nikon gear as well as Leica M and even my Twin lens Rollie. Thanks guys.

So what you're implying is that its intrinsic value far above and beyond its optics lies in the collectors realm of appreciating the hand-ground aspherical element as opposed to the molded ones in the 24? I can understand that reasoning with the NOCT-Nikkor; there is NOTHING quite like it both in construction and performance. The same can no longer be said of the 28.

Yep. Only 7333 of them in the world that number is only getting smaller. I would not venture so far as to say that the 28 1.4d has a equal in build or IQ but I am one of those that likes the 85 1.4 AIS over the 85 1.4d and the 80-200 ais rather than the AF. Need to get the 24 1.4G and the 35 1.4G in the hands of someone like Gregory for a comparison. Someone who knows the 28 1.4d real well and has the talent/skill to push them all. I bet if I looked around I may find just such a review..
The 28 1.4 is a unique limited lens. The other quality of that lens is it's lore. I feel that when I get to use a real legendary lens I just take better pictures because it is such a thrill to work with, but this is just a personal feeling. The build of the the 28 1.4 has a much more tactile feel to it more organic feeling to me.
I can't wait to see what comes of the new 28 1.4 that I have heard is in the making. That will be a real neat lens. Good thing they are making these new lens because it puts some real awesome optics with in the reach of some of us..
Most 28/1.4s are in the hands of Hollywood DPs now. Not many actual photographers have a copy at this point.

The chances of there being a new 28/1.4 are somewhere between zero and none. it didn't sell well before, and Nikon just released a 24/1.4 and 35/1.4, both of which are costly to produce. There's no way Nikon will release another 1.4 lens so close to both lenses.
Wow, wow, wow, what a display of the possibilities of this lens. I enjoyed almost every shot taken with it, it's impossible to highlight one of them. (Do you have shares in this lens? )
I'm absolutely not a 'tech buff' or however it is called, but I do recognize good equipment in very talented hands.
There's a great difference in your approach and in Donald Jean's but you both know what to do with this lens.
Great work!

I place the odds of a 28/1.4 G materializing just below a NOCT-Nikkor G and slightly ahead of a unicorn trotting through Central Park.
