Just picked up a Signa Asperical 28mm f/1.8 EF mount. It's one of the legacy Sigmas that only shoot wide open on Canon now days. But it's a champ on a Metabones III, works perfect, af is loud but quick and sure, aperture works great. Nice performing fast 28 for $45 plus shipping (and it came with a Rebel G and 35-80). I didn't know how it'd work out but happy I did.

A Nikkor H.C 50mm f/2 in LTM mount, which the eBay seller described as "cleaned with a brillo pad". I bought it as a gift for a friend who normally shoots with Diana and Lomo roll film cameras but recently acquired a Sony A6000. I thought it might give her a similar look while saving the hassle of having film developed and scanned. She's thrilled.

The Pentacon got here really fast. You never really know what to expect from eBay? I don't buy a lot of kit from eBay. But this lens arrived quicker than promised and in better condition all round than the listing blurb.
This is the 1960's era East German made Pantacon 135/2.8 lens decked out with zebra stripe rings and 15 aperture blades. It is a really clean copy and seems to function perfectly. Better than expected.
I have only tried a quick test chasing after one of my dogs but the look (known as the "bokeh monster") looks promising.

^^ "Cleaned with a Brillo Pad"? That poor lens! I wonder what the story there is? It looks deliberate or maybe a child messed with it? But I am curious to see what kind of images it renders...

I purchased a new, open-box APO-Summicron-M 50mm/f2 for... $878.15!
It was off the Bay, and I'm fully expecting the vendor to cancel my order and say there was a mistake in the listing . If something does actually ship to me, I'll be very curious what's inside

and the GAS-curse!
Now your friend also needs a nice LTM rangefinder to go with that lens. 🙄
Perhaps (for authenticity) a Nicca III series, which shipped with a variety of Nikkor 50mm lenses, including this model. But then she'd be back to shooting film.

I'd love to know the story too. The seller told me that he and his sister had been left a collection of more than a hundred lenses. He was exceptionally honest: not just with his description but after the auction he sent me a message asking if I understood what I had actually purchased. I realized that, even given an unscratched copy of the lens as a gift, I am both physically and psychologically incapable of inflicting that kind of damage. It's like a desecration, to me.
Since I have two excellent copies of the Nikkor-H.C 50/2 (it's one of my favorite lenses), I did a quick comparison. Here's a quick test shot (at f/2.8), imported into Lightroom and exported without any PP. First my lens, then the "Brillo" lens.

I am loving the Pentacon. It is also great fun messing around with the M42 extension tube set I have had for years but never really used until recently. The focus throw on this lens is insane: you twist for ever to move from 1.5 meters to infinity. This is most defiantly not a sports or action lens. But the focus feel is awesome. A really fun lens for the amazing price of $98...

You should no longer refer to this lens as an "abused by Brillo Pad " lens, rather you should reference it by saying "professionally customized distressed service..."

Hmm. Me too. I'm guessing your about to embark on some Contax G lens conversions. . .
I had too convince myself otherwise, but the MC 55/1.7 is older enough to be built with more aluminum and brass.
I've read about those, and really liked the G mount lenses I had, but didn't want to get into more projects. They're just inexpensive legacy glass to play with.

Sure enough, today the order was cancelled
I've watched the vendor the last few days and this lens was relisted repeatedly at variously changing prices, which all sold. My guess it there's only one lens which will now go to whomever bought the most expensive listing, and this whole exercise was the vendor somehow playing the system. They have well beyond 100,000 sales and over a 99% rating, so it's a major store, but that rating may be deceptive because I have no ability now to submit negative feedback on a cancelled sale. A good lesson for "buyer beware".
I never would have gone ahead with this little experiment if I weren't protected by PayPal. In a few days I'll receive a total refund. Once it comes through and this is all concluded, I'll go buy a consolation prize: 50 Lux Asph! Silver, of course
