Had one with a stiff helicoid a while back. I think it has a so-so rep due to its focusing, if you nail it, it's pretty nice but it's easy to miss, and just a hair off looks pretty bad.

Yeah, I wondered how many bad reviews were due to focusing error.

This guy had good luck with his:

Here's one I (hurriedly) processed, then sharpened and resized for web:

Hmm. Me too. I'm guessing your about to embark on some Contax G lens conversions. . .

I had to convince myself otherwise, but the MC 55/1.7 is older enough to be built with more aluminum and brass.

the focus rings and build are just so nice, and the design so sensible!

bluloo, if you decide to get rid of one let me know, i'm collecting them...

Picked up Tamron 70-210/3.5-4, which focuses to 1:2, that's supposed to be better than 90-180 series 1 macro.

http://www.adaptall-2.com/lenses/52A.html

Got an 80-250 Tamron, too, but the link doesn't seem to be working. Adaptall-2.com has the info, though. Looks like it was made in the late 70's or so

Canon FD SSC 85/1.8.I got two nFD 85/1.8s,yet this is the first SSC.

Nothing scientific, but it always seemed to me that pictures from older SSCs look crisper than those of nFD's.

Rubber. It's the later Rokkor-X. In initial testing last night, it appears to be a very nice copy of the lens. I think it's a bit sharper than the last two I owned (one late, one early).

i've had a number of different copies of the different versions pass through my hands, they all seem to perform similarly (surprisingly little copy variance) except that the earlier versions are yellow.

Today, I received a Contax 50/1.7 MMJ together with a Contax RTS both in mint condition. I thought about the 50/1.7 as a lightweight alternative to my beloved but massive Minolta MC 50/1.4 PG.

In addition, I bought a Minolta MD 45/2. Well, I am really surprised. I have not expected very much but it is well worth its 30 EUR.

Today, I purchased a Fuji X100S from another FM member. The first digital body I've purchased since getting an A7 in 2014. Hoping to use it like a digital Contax G1, AF and all.

The thing that held me back the most from a X100 series in the past was the poor manual focus (in the X100) and the lens. The lens isn't horrible, but it just never impressed me. IMHO, the output of my NEX-5R with the Contax G 28mm and 45mm is in another league. Even so, the work of Ian Boys and the other posters on the X100 thread convinced me that there's enough detail for me.

This is my first Fuji, so I'm not totally sure what to expect. I've played with the X100S and T in the store, and really like the feel. Really hoping it works out! If I like it, there's a chance I'll end up carrying this around more than my A7. It sounds like there are some Sony-esque ergonomic foibles, but overall it seems really fun to use.

I'm also flirting with the idea of only taking the X100S with me on an upcoming vacation in Puerto Vallarta with just my wife, no kids. I don't have a complicated setup and don't waste a lot of cycles deciding which set of lenses to bring. Hell, I don't even use a camera bag with my A7, just the camera on a strap and a lens in each back pocket. Even so, it'd be nice to have a single smallish camera to grab when the highest IQ isn't paramount.

If the X100S doesn't work, the RX1 might be next. The lack of a built-in EVF or even a flip screen is certainly a bummer. Really like to have at least one of those. I'd been debating between the RX1 and X100S for the last month, even have a FT post written up - my Pentax 77mm f/1.8 Limited and some cash for your RX1.

I'm now the expectant owner of a "beater" copy of Nikon 300/4.5 IF ED AIS. Got a really great deal on it due to some dings on the body and filter ring. But looks like the optics are clean and supposed to be smooth functioning. We'll soon see!

I wouldn't be using it too much, not being too into long lenses. I don't really care too much about looks, so long as the performance and images are great.

If it behaves as well as my 180/2.8 ED AIS, I'll be super-happy. By reputation it should.

A Canon 50 f1.8 LTM lens, purely as an external donor-lens for converting my Contax G45 f/2. It was very cheap since the optics have some haze and fungus.

Unfortunately, unlike my lovely Canon f/1.4 LTM (Japanese Summilux) the little f/1.8 is too narrow for a clean installation of my G45.

Good luck. I think you will love both the RTS and the 50/1.7. I have both.

My sister-in-law gave me an old Minolta XG-1 and a few lenses, including the MD 45/2. I had intended selling all of them as I simply have too much gear, however trying out the MD45 on a recemtly acquired Nex6 blew me away. It's a fantastic lens!

Here's a shot taken with it on the Nex6:

1.Leitz Apo Telyt R 180/3.4 - mint,347xxxSN,from the first owner and at a very reasonable price.

Results of routine tests clearly show, that this is the best apo-corrected lens in my hoard, within 180-200mm focal range. It overcame the Leitz R 180/2.8,C/Y Sonnars 180/2.8 MM and AE,Nikkor 180/2.8 AIS ED,Sigma Apo Macro 180/5.6 and Olympus 180/2.8.

From the 200mm realm The Apo Telyt R 180/3.4 bested out : Zeiss C/Y 200/3,5,Zeiss C/Y 200/4,Zeiss Jena 200/2.8,Minolta Rokkors MC/MC PF 200/3.5,Minolta Rokkors MC/MD 200/4 (supposed to have one big apo glass in the front!),Canon FD SSC 200/4,Canon FD SSC 200/2.8,2xCanon nFD 200/4,Nikkor 200/4 AIS,Pentax M 200/4,Yashica ML 200/4.Rolleinar (Mamiya made) MC 200/3.5,2xOlympus OM 200/4 ,2xOlympus OM 200/5,Konica Hexanon AR 200/3.5 (The closest follower-almost no CA/LoCA wide open!),Pentax M 200/4,Pentacon 200/4 m42.

....uuffffff!

I would't even consider such quick, but extensive and time consuming comparison,if I weren't forced to stay sick at home with plenty of time left!

2.Leitz Macro Elmar 100/4 "helical" - i.e. not for bellows, but for cameras - mint, boxed and reasonably priced. It is a very simple construction (4/3),not a true macro (going down only to 1:3 without tubes),yet very usefull,AND able to produce all relevant Leica goodies -i.e. colours and sharpness across the FF frame,no matter the distance/aperture combination.

3.Zeiss Jena Biometar 120/2.8 for Pentacon Six 6x6cm-a very nice lens for what it is.

Hi Piere,

Congratulations. The 180mm f3.4 Apo Telyt is a superb optic expecially considering its age. It is my go to lens in the focal length and is relatively small and light. From there I step up to my Leica R 280mm f4 Apo Telyt.

This may prove useful fo the Macro Elmar:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Boxed-EXC-LEICA-LEITZ-WETZLAR-Macro-Elmar-R-100-f-4-100mm-4-Adapter-1-1-/121906587535?hash=item1c6232e78f:g:JYYAAOSwe7BW0Ila

The lens should also work with the Leica Macaro Adapter R as well as the Leica R 2 and 3 ring extension sets:

http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odkw=leica+100mm+f4+macro-elmar-r&_osacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=p2045573.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.H0.Xleica+r+extension+tube+set.TRS0&_nkw=leica+r+extension+tube+set&_sacat=0

The 3 ring sets are the most useful and when used with a double cable release the lens can be used wide open for viewing and then stopped down to the working aperture by the cable relase.

Rich
