p.259 #1 · What is your most recent (alt) lens purchase?

I am awaiting the arrival of a Leica Summarit 35/2.5. The updated body styling of the latest 35/2.4 and the fact that they're now advertising the ASPH element has pushed down the price of the original to more palatable levels, but if there's an optical difference, I'm not seeing it.

It looks like the same formula, even the non optical surfaces look like they have the same dimensions, I'm no optical guru, so I'm not sure if you can get away with returning to an old design and add an aspheric surface to it, if you can, perhaps the corners are better? It would be interesting to see Rodger (LR) do some testing on them.

I don't think they added an aspheric. I was positive when they released the originals, they admitted they had to used an aspheric element in the 35 to correct for aberrations, but I can't find a reference now. It's possible I'm imagining things, but it wouldn't be the first time Leica used an unadvertised aspheric in their budget lens option (the 35-70/4 Kyocera built for them did as well). And I do remember Puts' blog when he said the lenses were closer to 2.4. That I can still find... http://www.imx.nl/photo/leica/lenses/lenses/page83.html

I'm pretty sure they just repackaged this one in a new shell and decided to advertise the aspheric.

Pentax 50mm 1.4, and a surprisingly nice 28mm 2.8 K-Mart brand in the box. I had to learn how to modify the K mounts for EOS, which wasn't too bad. I practiced on the K Mart lens first, which and that was pretty easy. The Pentax is made so much better and I was nervous about messing it up as its my first 8 blade MF lens.

All the rehousings have, unfortunately. Grown a little, too. I suppose we could tell ourselves it's the weather sealing and the aperture declick mechanism but I'm afraid this swoopy new body style is just needlessly bulky.

Yes, I think there's a lot of truth to that. The new barrels from Zeiss are bigger and heavier, with only slight improvements that to my mind don't justify their obesity. I'm not upgrading any of my "classic" ZF.2 lenses, and I only got the 85mm/1.4 because it's significantly better than my old Nikon 85mm/1.4 AFD. And the weight is why my usual carry around camera is a Leica M-P with a Zeiss 35mm/1.4 ZM. Sure that lens is a bit big by rangefinder comparisons, but it's nothing like the bulk and weight of my D800E with any lens, even a light one like the 28/1.8G AFS Nikkor. I only take the Nikon when I plan to take advantage of its extra resolution or if the weather is quite foul.

My latest new purchase arrived last night: the Zeiss ZM 15mm/2.8! From the Zeiss webpage for it: "a very complex optical design using exotic optical materials such as barium dense flint with a high refractive index and fluor crown with anomalous partial dispersion". Yeah, I'll just pretend I know what that means

I'm eager to capture some sweeping landscapes of fall color. It's big for M-mount, but actually not as long as my longest M-mount lens, the Voigtlander 21mm/1.8.

Canon EF 28-90 f4-5.6.

Came with a Canon EOS film camera (donated back) and a pretty good camera bag for $30 Australian.

I will likely not use this very often but for the money at 90mm it might have use on occasion on my A7s with a cheap AF adapter.

It isn't anywhere as good or as functional as my FE kit lens on my A7s or M4/3 kit lens on my GX7 but I think it may have use on my GX7 as a 56-180mm angle of view lens.

Very slow AF on the A7s, might be fast AF on my GX7 (have not got it with me).

Jpegs as taken other than resized to fit.

The bag was almost worth the cost in itself so this is close to a free lens. Not the greatest but not hopeless either I think.

My Otus 28 just showed up today and I was able to shoot some with it. Love the lens! It is heavy but feels ok on my 5DSR. Great IQ like my Otus 55. Performs very well shooting into the sun. Nice and sharp wide open.

Konica AR: 24/2.8, 85/1.8, 200/3.5 Pre-Set

I received the 24, it's nice as I expected, but after using the Konica 28/3.5 Preset, I find the aperture ring on the 24 to have a rudimentary feeling to it, this just reinforces my desire to focus on obtaining more presets....

I found a Cosmicar 70-200 in the drawer the other day, not sure when I got it but saw its was K mount so I got my tools out a modded it to fit my camera. I was quite surprised by the images it produced, even some macro shots of bees in the backyard. Anyone know what company made these?

Contax 100/3.5, my C/Y 100/2 wanted a little sister. Will use with TAP when I don't want to carry FE 70-200/4 or big brother.

In several occasions I was able to get one from these, but stopped myself after Zuiko 100mm 2.8 and Tamron 90mm 2.5 inside the cupboard came to my mind. What did I actually miss?

Sigma 85mm f1.4 EX (the old version, not the new Art); was in the market for a Nikon 85 1.8, found the Sigma for cheaper on the local Craigslist so I figured I'd give it a try. Definitely happy with it so far, kinda regretting not purchasing one sooner.

Both Zuiko 100/2.8 and Tamron 90/2.5 are very fine lenses,in the same league overall with the MC Tele Rokkor 100/2.5.

However I prefer Minolta colour rendition than that of Tamron and Olympus. It is very "older Leica R like" - warm, deep and well saturated. Also microcontrast, stopped down 2 f stops,is very good.Better than that of 3 later models that I have.
