You'll love it. The S100 delivers a fabulous result, and is so easy to carry. The P100 is a great optic, but I only use it if I need the speed (essentially never), or perfect linearity.

Zeiss ZE 100mm..... I had put it off for years since I already have the CV 125/2.5. But the latter is no good for landscapes, so I took the plunge. I got it brand new, it was discounted because it the series is discontinued, and with the Zeiss rebate it was cheaper than buying used.

Same here. I got the last one from Camtec early this year. Reduced list price, plus Zeiss rebate. Also, I got an extra year of warranty coverage when I registered online at Zeiss Canada.

Same here! They seemed to be going for a good price used, so I was contemplating it for a bit. Then I came across the last one at The Camera Store in Calgary, and did the math. It will be a fine lens for a long time, despite being 'old'.

I also just picked up Zeiss 21 and 25 Biogons in Leica M mount along with an M9. The M9 is back for the corroded sensor replacement. I couldn't resist shooting a few pictures with the lenses on the XT1. The field of view is not what it would be on an FF sensor but the color and resolution is superb.

I found a Cosmicar 70-200 in the drawer the other day, not sure when I got it but saw its was K mount so I got my tools out a modded it to fit my camera. I was quite surprised by the images it produced, even some macro shots of bees in the backyard. Anyone know what company made these?
that sounds great. With a name liked Cosmicar "it's not of this world as we know it Jim"!

The C/Y 100/2 is a fantastic portrait lens, probably the best that I have ever used.

I must be crazy, but had a good month and had been wanting to try out some lenses so I am awaiting the arrival of FOUR new lenses (I did sell a lens and another is for sale, but still....). The new ones are a Zeiss Loxia 21 and 50, Leica M 135/3.4 and a Leica 28/1.4. The last one was a bit pricey.....
The reason I had not bought the Loxia before is that it is a new filter size for me. I have several lenses that use 49mm thread and the 28/1.4 and the 135/3.4 both have 49mm filter threads. I also want to see how they stack up to the lenses I already have in those focal lengths (FE 55 and Leica WATE). The sunstars should be fun tho! The 135mm is a focal length I have lacked for a while. This should guarantee that Sony comes out with a cheap and superlative 135....

I know it well.
A7ii, P100, wide open, one light. Have used it in the film era mounted in its natural habitat, Contax SLRs. For me, however, the speed is immaterial since I always shoot portraits at f/4-11 to gain DOF (except for tests). I also prefer tight crops and longer FLs like 135-300mm. My favorite portrait lenses at the moment are the Rok 135, and Nikkor 70-200/4 for the AF.

During the KEH sale I managed to get an EX+ Sony 35mm f2.8 for $460, which is quite a bit lower than the average prices so I'm quite happy. Hopefully it'll be a solid performer, I wanted a small high quality camera combo (with the a7r) I could take on my honeymoon in LA, the RX-100 is great for scenery just not the best portrait camera. Either way I'm excited for the lens!

So, bought a Leica R 90/2 from 1972 for $40, and the R 35/2 from 1973 for $20
Sadly they are not mint, Sadly they have major water damage, the aperture mechanisms are both stuck, blades may be rusted together, the focus ring on the 35 is stuck.
I'm not expecting them to survive, but thought they might be interesting to try and save.
Wish me luck.

Actually, I'm with you on the speed part, as I rarely use f2 for portraits. What I like so much about the C/Y 100/2 is its gorgeous 3D rendering. I have used some pretty fine portrait lenses over the years but nothing quite up to it.

Leica 28/2.8 Elmarit-R II, finally
I didn't really have the money, so I think I'm going to have to trade in my 21/2.8 ZF.2, but as little as I shoot ultra-wide I think 28 is better for me.
