Molson - Enjoy the Contax 100-300. I bought it while it was in production. The Novoflex adapter plus tripod collar works very well with it on monopod or tripod. Use with Mutar is not approved because there's contact at rear when lens is at 100mm. However, provided you are using lens at long end, optically the Mutar III with it is insanely great. I'm even scared to do it as a momentary lapse in thinking could have you pull that zoom back in... Ouch. Another tidbit - the Canon 500D close up lens is terrific on the 100-300! Have fun with your new lens, one of Contax's best for sure.

Contax Zeiss Sonnar 3.5/100, I've waited a long time to get this small and nice tele lens.
MTF looks very promising, but is missing from the official Zeiss site.

photoe,
Congrats on the S100 C/Y. For an "economy" lens, it really is a top performer—one of my favs. The spec sheet is weirdly missing from CZ web site (and it used to be there). PM for a (De) copy of mine.

+1
The data sheet is in the German language part of the Zeiss site, not the English language part.
You can download the German version at,

Canon nFD 20mm/f2.8 at a local dealer...
This time I was lucky. The lens is in extremely good condition and first tests show that it is very well centered (which unfortunately hasn't been always the case in my super wide angle buying history).
It seems to be very usable on the A7 and I am looking forward to using it.

Should this thread be named "What is your most recent (alt) gear purchase?", instead of "lens"?
My most recent is a waist level finder for my Rolleiflex 6008i which has had the normal loupe replaced with a huge one from a Mamiya RB67, which gives a much larger magnified view than the regular one. Now I just need a better focusing screen. I have a split-circle with micro raster, which I find distracting.

wow i think i've finally found my fellow alternative lens collecting addicts. recently i got a nice tilt adapter for EOS to Sony which is really fun to play with. i just got a 100 MP and thinking of picking up a Bokina, as the samples look pretty good. Maybe also a CZ 35-70. I need to use $50 of ebay bucks before month's end
I can't upload the image here at present as my subscription has expired and a renewal will be at least delayed, pending a new computer being built to replace the one which trashed itself.

CV 40/1.4. Much, much better than I was really expecting.
Pentax 43/1.9 Limited (early serial number MIJ) - Not as good as I thought it would be (it will be going back). In fact, the above CV pretty much outclasses it by a stop and the bokeh is extremely similar between the two. Pentax shows more CA wide open at 1.9 than the CV at 1.4!

Zeiss C/Y Vario-Sonnar MMJ 35-70mm 3.4......assuming there is no issues with it, I got a really decent deal. I lucked out with the Zeiss C/Y Distagon MMJ 38mm 2.8 I got a little ways back, not sure I can be lucky twice.

I do have to recant some of this. It seems there is something special about the color and tonality with the Pentax 43/1.9, which I noticed in direct comparisons with other 40-50mm lenses. I was not expecting to see the higher level of CA wide open but stopped down just one stop pretty much eliminates the CA. You also need F8 to get good across the frame sharpness on FF (A7r). The overall rendering of the Pentax though seems very nice and maybe a little special.

Pentax 645 SMC-A 35/3.5... this lens is harder to find than I thought it would be, unless you're willing to pay the BIN prices of the handful on eBay. One finally popped up at B&H so I jumped on it. And that should complete the 645 D kit.
p.189 #19 · What is your most recent (alt) lens purchase?
So the lens I got had a serial number that didn't match the photo in the listing. And it had a wobbly mount, which I fixed. The lens was in similar condition to the one in the listing though (from what I could see in the photos.)
Still testing it, but it appears to work well.
So I'm not sure how to digest this...

Interesting. I'd put it through the paces with some f/8 scenic photos. It should be slightly sharper in the corners than your Distagon 28/2.8 (given the challenges of comparing different focal lengths).
As long as it performs as expected, and it's the same condition and 'type' as advertised (i.e. AE vs. MM, G vs. J), I'd keep it; otherwise, back it goes.
