It's a MMJ, it appears sharp in the corners at f/8 and f/11 (haven't been able to test it at the longer end were it isn't DoF constrained at f/8.) So the wobbly mount was fixable (although I learned a lot in the process of resolving that.) The serial number mismatch is odd. He said he got two in an estate sale and was keeping one. So I guess there is some shred of plausibility in that he sent the wrong one of the two. But still odd.
It's not mint, but the glass appears spotless (not sure I even saw any dust...or at least much to note.) The barrel has some abrasions, but isn't beat up. I got it for $330 shipped, and after applying some eBay bucks I effectively got it for around $240.

Interesting. I'd put it through the paces with some f/8 scenic photos. It should be slightly sharper in the corners than your Distagon 28/2.8 (given the challenges of comparing different focal lengths).
As long as it performs as expected, and it's the same condition and 'type' as advertised (i.e. AE vs. MM, G vs. J), I'd keep it; otherwise, back it goes.

You'll like the ZE 21...I love that lens.
Oh, I had it before. I still love that lens. I stupidly sold my 35-70 a few years back too. The 35-70 and Tokina 90 are two lenses I could shoot myself for selling. :-(
If you wind up not keeping the 35-70, PM Me first!

Stumbled across a Pentax K 28mm f3.5 (pre-M 8 element Version) for EUR 69 at a local dealer. This version of the 28mm f3.5 is very well-regarded by Pentaxians.
As soon as I have a the right adapter I will report how well it works on the Sony A7...

That lens works great on my A7r so I would imagine it would be at least as good on the A7.
This year, I've either sold or am selling three of my "bought three times" lenses, and one of the other two has been retired to my 'museum'. The 'fifth' one is my CZ 35-70/3.4 MMJ.

I never understood why people sold their favourite lenses, even if they didn't work on a particular body. 3rd times the charm right?
'Cause I bought a boat and needed the money. :-D
I'd like to have ZE 21, ZE 35, C/Y 35-70, Sigma 50, Rokkor 58/1.2, MP-E 65, Tokina 90. Those are all my favorite lenses. I rarely go past those FLs. I owned the 70-200 F4 IS and it was pretty great. If I were made of money, I never would've gotten rid of anything. Right now, I'm selling junk from another hobby to afford a 6D.

I missed that thread, I've only bought a Topcor RE 28/2.8 a 2nd time, and that was to get a sharper copy, which it was, the next closest would be the Tak 50/1.4, but I don't count them as they're different versions.

But what can a boat do that a lens can't? lol
Junk is one thing, also lenses you never use, but lenses you love?
