Fantastic, so you did pick it up after all! Would you make a photo of it on your NEX-7?

I wasn't making it one! I was just saying that the guy considered the NEX7 an epic failure, which seems like an overstatement. Thus, my comment: I find interesting that he feels this way considering the amount of impressive images seen in this and other boards.
Now, I know that he was obsessing on a particular issue, but, to me, this is as wrong as saying that every image coming out of the NEX 7 is pure gold…

I'm not a photozone fan one way or the other--I take your point. If what klaus says is true, it's a very big deal---and the only resaon we would say it's not it to protect the feelings of our friends.

As far as the "many great 7 shots" first, there aren't that many. Those we do have may be stopped down or have edges outside the focal plane anyway.

Again--anyone wondering why it's a big deal should look at the LL shootout with the M9 original version and the n7 wide open on the 50 LUX. Edges are terrible. Why? M9 edges with FF are fine.

Anyway, if I had an n7 on order right now, or owned one I would certainly want to know abou tthe issue.

I see your point and I guess that we must wait and see… And enjoy our 5Ns for what they're worth!

Oh! And I've seen quite a few good shots with it (both here and, particularly at GetDPI, where they seem to have got their NEX 7s, before the buggars got here!)… but then I fell into the trap of overstatement myself when I wrote great.

I am still undecided. I have until tomorrow to make up my mind. On the plus side, nothing can touch a combo like this as a high-performance compact system. On the minus side, the 7 is just not that easy to use if one wants to get the maximum out of it. Whereas nailing a shot with my NEX 5N is a lot easier than with my 5DII, it is more difficult with my 7. But the result, whenever I look at a 100% crop...

doesn't look to good, but i wouldn't be surprised if focus is a bit off. you just can't trust autofocus even cdaf (at least sony's) with large distance and large dof shots.

Sebboh,
Thanks! and yes this is an endangered Hawaiian Monk Seal that decided he needed a break from the roaring surf and took about a 2/3 hour nap
You are supposed to give them room, most folks don't and get within a couple of feet snapping off point and shoot cameras
Using the 75-150 I was able to keep a nice distance and took a bunch of shots when all the other beach-goers wandered off

It is not such an easy lens for me to describe, because it has no competition to compare it to on NEX 7. This is what I can say. I can find no compatibility issue between the WATE and the 7, even at 16mm and wide open and in the extreme corners.
I have compared it to the ZM 18, but on the lesser NEX 5N, where I consder the results to be on a par. The Zeiss is -justly- famous for sharpness and contrast. The WATE, by comparison, gives a more delicate rendering at 18mm, and no less sharp, maybe

Interesting, did you buy your WATE new? I ask, because my WATE, which I purchased used, is at its best at 16mm, then 21mm and lastly 18mm. It is stellar on the 5n, but it needs F/8.0 to achieve full corner sharpness on the 7. When I say this, it is still better than almost all other options. The Zeiss 18mm that I had is ever so slightly sharper, and I will be testing a new Leica 18mm this week.

The WATE seems to have that uber micro detail on my lens. I will be testing my WATE on an M9 as well.

Nice shot, looks like this guy really enjoys the day. The Nikon Series E 75-150mm Zoom is one of Nikon's jewels. Works also great with a Nikon close up lens. Sharp and nice bokeh and not too big for it's range.

Great shots. Series E 75-150mm perform well at f8 and only catch is zoom creep.

The 75-150's a gem, but the Kiron 70-150 it's derived from is even better. A little slower (f4, or f3.8 in the Vivitar branded version) but without the zoom slop issue and can be used with Kiron's 1.5x Match-Mate TC as well.

Love this thread!

I ordered from Japan the rare and unusual MS Perar 35mm f3.5 triplet m-mount lens to use on my NEX5N.

I would have bought this lens for any of the following reasons -- it's possibly the smallest full frame lens ever, it's historically interesting, it's optically interesting with only three elements, it's handmade, it's different and fun to use. With ALL these reasons, I couldn't whip my credit card out fast enough.

Anyway, here it is on the NEX5N. The large knurled ring is part of the Hawk adapter, and the smaller knurled ring is where the tiny lens begins. If you can believe it, the lens has its tiny hood on in these pictures.

I find the images have a crystaline quality similar to that associated with no AA filter cameras. I can't wait to try this on a non-AA filter Fuji XPro1 and see what we get!

Here are few "arty shots" taken from a recent trip to Carmel & Monterey California.

The Perar is a super cool, little lens with a nice look. I unfortunately had some well documented de-centering with my copy, so I had to send it back, but I wish that I'd received a good copy of the lens.
