I feel that either Klaus is doing something weird/wrong or he has a faulty sample. My nex-7 is pretty much flawless when it comes to cross-frame sharpness.

He's been through two cameras now. It's a wide aperture issue. He is not the only one:

In the LL comparison w/9 I thought it was strange how many stops it took the crop 7 to catch the FF 9 on the edges.

I have tried the contax-g 45, 90, the nikkor 180/2.8 and quit a few others wide open, and I can't say that I have seen this issue. I still lean towards PEBCAK

here's half of a pano i'm working on, around 25 frames in this part of it:

with the contax g 45 at f/5.6.

just for fun here's a couple of unsharpened 100% crops (flickr seems to have somehow made them less sharp and noisier though ):

"I'm next to giving up lens testing on the NEX 7 now.
This sensor seems to be totally unsuitable for testing lenses and, frankly, I consider it to be an epic failure"

It's interesting, considering how many nice images we've seen here coming out of the NEX7!

Calling the Nex-7 an "epic failure" is.. creative at best..

Yes, all the closeups are taken with 125 f2.5. 1st shot is Zeiss 100MP.

Here's a few more from China where the weather was awful (cold, damp and overcast).

He is not saying a good image has never come out of the camera. The issue is specific. Read his threads and the other one at DPI.

I don't think it's a political arguement.

I wasn't making it one! I was just saying that the guy considered the NEX7 an epic failure, which seems like an overstatement. Thus, my comment: I find interesting that he feels this way considering the amount of impressive images seen in this and other boards.
Now, I know that he was obsessing on a particular issue, but, to me, this is as wrong as saying that every image coming out of the NEX 7 is pure gold…

It is not such an easy lens for me to describe, because it has no competition to compare it to on NEX 7. This is what I can say. I can find no compatibility issue between the WATE and the 7, even at 16mm and wide open and in the extreme corners.
I have compared it to the ZM 18, but on the lesser NEX 5N, where I consder the results to be on a par. The Zeiss is -justly- famous for sharpness and contrast. The WATE, by comparison, gives a more delicate rendering at 18mm, and no less sharp, maybe even a bit sharper in the extreme corners, though that could be a matter of compatibility with the camera, but in a less in-your-face way. Which one one chooses is IMHO a matter of preferences, not of performance or quality.
The WATE displays just the faintest trace of CA, only just enough that I can't say that there is absolutely none, and shows very good flare resistance indeed.
While I only used a Elmar 24 for a few comparison shots on my 5N, if I had to guess, I would say that the WATE is probably not quite as good as the Elmar, but really not by much. But of course, the WATE is much more versatile than any single prime, though best performance seems to be at 18mm, closely followed by 16mm, with 21mm trailing a bit behind.
And, of course, it offers this virtually unnlimited DOF where everything is sharp from 30cm to infinity. Though I know that, on FM, "real men do it wide open", on the WATE it is meaningless. But beware, on the NEX 7, the difference between critically sharp and hyperfocally sharp is plainly visible, especially with the huge magnification that viewing at 100% brings with a camera of such high pixel count.
Oveall, a tremendous landscape lens on FF and crop, and a fantastic cityscape lens as well on crop.

Thanks for the comments guys. More yet to come from my brief visit. In the meantime, anyone know how to upload images to an fm forum from an iPad? The fm reply dialog box won't let me choose a file on my system (in this case, the iPad). I just received a Voigtlander 35/1.2 version II and was hoping to post a SOOC shot. Otherwise, it will wait till I get home.
