Bob
Love your skyline shots, but really appreciated seeing the balloon photos from the Hudson balloon fest. Would have been over there in a heartbeat if I didn't have to work yesterday. Sorry to hear that the balloons weren't able to fly.

Thanks Alan. Although the balloons didn't fly, they tethered them which gave us more time to get the shots you see here. Otherwise, they would have taken off much sooner. "Making lemonade out of lemons!"

Some more Contax G21. First two for bokeh, and the last two for high ISO ~2000.

3D anyone?

wfrank,

just out of curiosity, have you trimmed the rear plastic protectors on this lens? Also, if you have, did it make a difference?

Thanks

Putting together some lenses for a pre-ordered NEX-7. Purchased a Cron R 50mm f2 and a Contax CZ 90 f2.8. I have read the raves and seen some great shots from the Contax CZ 45 f2 and have wondered if this is a lens I should also consider or is it too close to the Cron 50? Any thoughts from those of you that have used these two lenses on a NEX, comparisons/favorites?

I have the Contax 45/2 but not the Cron 50. I've been very happy with the result. The last image I posted was with the 45/2!

No, I have not tampered with it. And I dont see how that could change whats projected on the sensor, the plastic protection does of course not affect the light in any way.

I've seen it modified, but as I understand it's for micro 4/3's where they mechanically (can) hit something in the camera house.

There could be a theoretical possibility for the blades to hit something in the NEX, given a thin adapter. But there should be an optimum thickness for those - since an adapter need to secure that both infinity focus and close MFD is possible. I have no fancy stuff, I stick with cheapo chinese as of now, works fine for me.

But for the record, I am not a lens or optic expert of any kind...

I sometimes wonder if I should buy a Nex-7 just for that CV 35/1.2!

A few low light test shots with the new 5N and Zeiss 35/2 ZM. I am really impressed with the colors and low light performance of this combo.

What do you do on a Sunday in Sweden? Let me give you a hint...

That's right. My wife forced me to go IKEA shopping... Sigh... At least I took my NEX to kill some time, continuing my experimenting with the CTX Planar. It has a legendary reputation of excellent OOF rendering, and imho it doesn't disapoint. All shot wide open.

@Ulrik - Very good OOF rendering there.

@Rioni - Nice colors. What are we looking at here in the first and last shots?

@Philber, WFrank - thanks again for the kind words. I had a fun and productive day at Pt. Reyes.

@BrianTho - You snuck in right before me... I 'd at the 'my wife force me' bit... that's how I feel sometimes too. For some reason I thought this was an American Euro-cliche, but I guess even Swedes must brave the masses at Ikea! The rendering from that lens is wonderful. I had never thought about photo oportunities there, it appears you have set the standard; I'll have to see what I can come up with on our next visit there

A few more from me at Pt. Reyes. Before I get on to the sunsets I thought I would make a few B&W beach images. First two are CV 15, last is CV 90.

Thanks for the reply, I have experienced the same magenta cast as you with the 21mm. I read somewhere that trimming the blades reduces it, but I am very suspect of the comment, because it makes no sense...

@briantho rofl, really well used time i would say.
You make the Planar look really great, how much does it cost and and could you post a picture of it on your NEX? thanks

@Jacob D it doesn't happen to often that i like b&w images, i like yours.

@legaltrouble interesting test, that zm looks best in my eyes.

I wouldn't recommend an IKEA photo/shopping session. Trust me.

Thanks. Prices vary between €100 and €400 depending on condition. Mine cost €170 attached to a Bullseye camera, but it's not the best condition, I'm planning on buying a mint copy later.

Kipon are the only ones who make an adapter for CTX, and it's pretty expensive, about €90 I belive.

I might post images of it later, for now, here is a pic I found on the web:

have you tried your rokkor on the NEX?

jman posted a comparison a few days ago of a bunch of normals including the 57/1.2 on his GH2 (similar pixel density to a NEX-7). from the few shots i've seen around the interwebs i'll keep my rokkor over the konica. the konica might be sharper (not sure) but i like the look of the rokkor much better (and i'm sure my canon FL 55/1.2 is sharper than both).

jacob – this whole set is great, but this one is my favoriet:

rioni: totally agree, very nice colors. Great shots and congrats to your 5N combo. One of the few G's I havent tried is the 35/2. I wonder how it stands against the ZM version.

briantho: nice series and very innovative place to "try" an impressive lens. I dont know anything about Contarex but your images makes one want to know more.

And just the ease the euro-american rivalry, me and my son did NOT go to IKEA, we went to McD :-)

Jacob: you do it over and over again. #1 and #2 are serious wall material. Great shots and spot-on tasteful BW treatment!
