I'd still prefer a 1Ds to this proposed camera. I guess I'm just sentimental.

I think if a camera like a "3D" or 5Dlite or whatever was released with 15-16mp, AF similar to the D700 or 7D and even 5-6fps I would finally have a reason to replace my elderly 5D. I just want something that works well for landscapes, shallow DOF portraits and able to do kids sports -- and doesn't cost as much as a used car or weigh more than one of my kids. Maybe it makes more sense to Canon to make us have 2 cameras, each suited to a different purpose.

Canon will not intergrate 7D focusing into the 5D III, if you want a Pro body with all the bells and whistles you will have to purchase a 1D.

The 7D was the result of an angry parent that will remain nameless and an encounter with Canon's CEO.

The 7D was created for the parents of student athletes.

You have been watching too much of US news over the years.

Perhaps you should put in perspective that the world of Canon, not like the world of US news, does not revolve around the US only. There's much, much more to sales of major camera models than specific, niche US domestic demographics which you seem to imply there ...

I see zero correlation between 60D and any 5D III. One has no implication at all for the other IMO. The 60D fills the much needed niche between 550D and 7D, and in many ways it's a better camera than the 50D, in some not as good, but it's cheaper. It's an important segment to Canon, just like the 5D occupies an important market segment. The 5D II is still selling very well and they can sit back and wait for Nikon's update of the D700 before revealing their hand if need be. If the 5D III is a a mild...Show more

Actually, I see a huge correlation between the 60D and a potential 5D3/3D. The 60D (like many cameras before) show Canon's concern for how it fits into their model line. It's quite obvious that the question they ask is "how will this fit in our line up?" As a company whose main goal is to make as much money as possible (aka a successful company), they need to make sure that their lower-end models don't cannibalize their higher-end models. People need a reason to upgrade. Pretty much every successful company in the world does this. Want an Apple laptop with a 15" screen? You're going to pay for a beefier processor as well whether you wanted it or not.

Now, I would guess that none of us would have any problem with this had Nikon not turned the world upside down. The question that they seem to be asking is "how can we build the best camera possible for the price"?

To truly "beat" Nikon, Canon must either start asking the same question, or leapfrog Nikon so much with its top-end models that it has enough "breathing room" for its lower-end models to be able to better the Nikons without cannibalizing its higher models (which is what Canon had been able to do up until the D3/D300).

I have a hunch that, as Canonrumors suggests, the 5D3 will be announced in early spring for a late spring release, and I wouldn't be surprised if the 1Ds4 is announced before the end of this year for release in early 2011.

Of course the curveball in all this is the fact that PMA next year has been moved from its usual Feb/Mar slot to September... are there any big photography shows in the spring that could be used to announce new products?

Canon Corp sells alot more than cameras to the USA's wasteful medical establishment.

Hence, they released a 7D a camera many said would never be released and is a good response to the D300. Despite what people think, Canon do eventually get off the arse and give us (mostly) want we want. They seem to have to be dragged kicking and screaming, though.

Anybody would think a 5D II is a complete POS the way some people complain, where it's only real down fall is weak/poor AF performance with off centre points in low light or AI servo.

Imagine a 14 MP Camera, Full Frame, 7d AF, sd card, smaller body, no weather sealing: 3d

Canon gave you (not me ) this camera because it is brand new line, otherwise who will by it if not good AF/etc? 5D/5D2 sold perfectly, check forums and see "new and proud 5D2 owner" posts every day and I wouldn't find any worry about from Canon.
Yes, 5D3 would be better camera but it would be below 1D in AF abilities and that is how Canon doing his business.

Time flies!

I can't believe the 5D2 is two years old already. That means I can start saving for the 5D4 which should launch in 4 years time.

Makes no difference what you got in your hand if you can't shoot a good photo.

Its the grey matter between the ears that is more important that the equipment between your hands.

I don't think a 3D, 20/fps, gyroscope controlled, 100mp camera with a 25 stop dynamic range can help me with my photography.

Wow...a smaller body than the 7D/50D is a 60D.
A FF with the size of the 60D and 7D AF I'll take 2 please.

There ought to be a market for people who want a full frame camera to support their full frame lenses, but don't want to pay for features they don't need, such as 10 fps, 500 focus points, 50 megapixels, and movie mode.

In other words, bring back the 5D at lower price. Maybe add a pop-up flash.

Yes you state the obvious. Of course 5D III will be below 1D in AF, but by how much? 7D is not far below 1D in AF, despite what you say.

Not exactly, I never owned Nikon but as I understand there is not much difference in AF between top level D3 and one level below D700 model. Am I right? That will never happen to Canon, 5D3 will be always: less points, less cross points, slower, etc than 1Dx. That is how Canon makes his business since day one and 7D will not change it. Besides who said 7D is even close to 1D4? I sold it after first day I saw clipped highlights on my shots made with 7D
