Had a short chat with the top guy in Canon NJ(don't ask me who he is), when he asked me what cameras are in my bag( what I am shooting with), I told him that I still prefer the 1Ds Mark III compared with the 5D II due to the AF and handling, he told me that you may need a new camera, I said WHAT? A new small form camera with pro-AF system and built quality is coming? He smiled and said YES !
Let's see what it will be, and don't hold me accountable, lol......
Anyone at Canon who leaked that kind of information knows that they would very shortly either be unemployed or shuttled off sideways to a job they can't afford to leave yet offers no path for advancement. Disloyalty has its price.
not much of a surprise - my guess is it's simply the replacement for the 5D2, which is now over two years old.
here's another guess: they'll put more or less the 7D's AF in the upcoming 5D2 successor and call it 'pro AF'. then they'll add a couple of foam strips to the 5D2 body and call it an 'increase in build quality'. both wouldn't technically be falsehoods, but in practice a bit underwhelming when considering the price and how many times canon will probably use the word 'exciting' in their press release.
That information would hardly qualify as a secret or major news event. Of course he could say that with no fear of his job because he didn't mention a date or surprise surprise, the 5D2 will be upgraded, SOMEDAY, and it's going to have better AF and build quality just simply to compete in the market.

Eventually it will focus as well as the 1998 EOS 3 cameras, and with a similar coverage.

WHY ?
It's not a secret that Canon will release a new camera as all we expected, this is just a confirmation from someone inside...

Agree...
But this just confirmed something new is coming from Canon for the DSLR...

Well my EOS 3 doesn't exactly overwhelm me with it's speed. If they just stuck the FF sensor in the 7D body and kept the price the same it would be happy days.
Recession or not, it will sell like hot cake.... .
Well, of course, it will depends on the price. I venture to guess it will have an MSRP: $3,999.00 . Street price would be probably around $3,299.00 in the beginning. I know it will be steep.... . The declining US$, of course, has to do with it. I am speculating and nothing else .

The problem is I like BIG camera body due to the big hand, especially prefer the vertical handgrip etc...
BTW-- It's an very casual conversation when talking my gears and the new camera thing came up, nothing serious, so take it as it is
