I had LASIK about 20 years ago (at age 54) having been extremely myopic from age 6 or so. I wore hard contact lenses for about 35 years and my eyes finally settled at -13.5 and -12.75. The opthalmologist who did the surgery was a world authority and pioneer in LASIK and even though no-one will touch such near sightedness with LASIK today he did a great job. I had better than 20/25 for about 15 years and gradually my sight deteriorated due to cataracts. Correcting for cataracts is simple if you've not had LASIK but it's complicated afterwards and finding the correct lens implant is an issue.
Once again I was fortunate to find a top man in this field and although my lenses have been replaced in both eyes (8 years apart) I now have 20/25 which is not bad for 74. I do need reading glasses in common with most seniors but the joy of going without glasses is hard to describe.
What this does mean though is that focusing MF lenses without the dot can sometimes be a bit problematic and I was looking for a KatzEye screen for the D200 at one stage. Split screen focusing is such a joy and even the fresnel screens on my (very) old Pentaxes were amazing.
I'm told that one needs to be more than -2 in each eye to really appreciate LASIK but all I know is it changed my life....Show more →
Never had lasik, I do 20/25 left eye and easy 20/20 right eye at 67 YO with glasses. Dominant eye is right but I only compose photos with left eye/right brain.
The Z6 with peaking and F1n button magnification is a life saver. One can quickly position the focus point (not working with MF lenses but present) with the joystick press F1n to magnify and critically focus at the focus spot location.High magnification peaking works great, after quickly focusing at high magnification zoom out to recompose, the whole process is quick.
Lenses like the 15mm 3.5 with strong field curvature can have the edges focused where you want with ease, also large aperture MF lenses become easy to focus accurately.
Here are some random samples with the Z6 and old MF lenses.

I so wish modern DSLRs would have a removable prism so the focusing screens could be replaced. I would take that over an EVF any day of the week
You can easily replace the view screen on Nikon DSLRs with those supplied by third party vendors by going in via the mirror box. I have a split prism / micro-prism screen mounted on my D810.
I promise to end the banal pictures with the Z6, ask me questions if you want about taking MF pics with the Z6, I am done with my comments with this final one:
The Z6 works great with MF lenses, no focusing indicator, no aperture detector, but focus peaking works so well, and viewfinder magnification is so accurate and quick that the shortcomings don't matter, when you close the lens down the viewfinder stays bright. Still like my DSLRs, they are not going anywhere, but when using a particularly hard lens to MF or a non-ai lens or a M39 lens the Z6 is coming out. For my amateur photography the 24mp is a sweet spot.
I know nothing about the Z6 AF or video, nor do I care.
Wireless transfer works now, with an update to the wireless utility, it is slow to transfer, 20 mp per sec, but easy to work, just leave the camera unattended to transfer all photos, or connect a cable for fast transfer if you have hundreds to move.
I leave with two test photos from a Frankenstein 5.8cm I assembled from three damaged lenses three years ago, was not able to test until the Z6 arrived. I found out the lens works well but does not focus to infinity, an easy adjustment.

Yes, they work well. I had a K3 on my Df before I sold it. But still would like to be able to easily switch out depending on lens/focal length.
As usual I lie, mounted the 300mm 4.5 EDIF on the Z6 and it was an easy hand held experience, those that have this lens know about the ball bearing focusing. Then I put the TC14 to go to 420mm 5.6 hand held and this is a sample of what I got.

My local dealer friend called me and told me he had a Z6 body and adapter come in. He said he put it on the hold shelf with my name on it.

I am sure you more than strong enough to carry a Z6 box of goodies out of the shop.

That Z6 is really calling my name.
First I have to get rid of some stuff, like my Df and probably my D500 as well. My D850 is going nowhere.
Me too
First I have to get rid of some stuff, like my WIFE and probably a kidney or two - Body only A$4500, kit with 24-70 A$6200 !

Side note on SEP2: It's not free any longer! I was just setting up Adobe CC on my Windows 10 boot drive to prep for 2020 when Windows 7 moves on into operating system heaven, only to find out you can't download the SEP2 installer from Google any longer.

The "old" Nik collection can still be downloaded from the DXO website, the page is just well hidden:
Who wants to keep using the collection with newer OS and/or Adobe versions should maybe consider getting the re-worked version this weekend, as it's availabe for $35. There are no feature updates though, they only fixed compatibility issues with the newer software.
Nice to see that lens working with the FTZ adapter! Strange that Nikon lists it as incompatible in the reference manual-that got me worried because it's my olny pre-AI lens (so far ) and I was hoping to be able to use it on the Z without conversion.
Several companies have announced production of adapters to the Z mount (some Shoten and Kipon adapters can already be found on ebay):
George glad to hear you local dealer has got your camera. It’s only mony and time waits for no
man. I am still waiting for the call from Marshalls about my Z6. Hope it comes soon.
Andy, one kidney OK. Giving up two is a NO NO!
Raphael I am feeding off your enthusiam. Go get em!

They certainly didn't have to fix any compatibility issues in Win 10. My in December 2017 downloaded Google free version installed just fine in Photoshop CC 2019 on Windows 10. Since I bought the plugins for $169 before Google started giving away the bundle, I have no intention to pay DXO unless they actually do something that enhances the product (like a larger font in 4K resolution would be nice, but not $35 wort of nice).
From what I can tell, the versions from a year ago are installing just fine into the very latest CC applications and everything I did with it last night worked without a glitch.
