Glad you two didn't decide to tough it out (as the docs told me when I showed up in the ER, some do). It is scary being alone when this stuff happens, and when it does, time is the key ingredient. Hope the recovery is uneventful.

We were due to fly to Tokyo today for three weeks. But last Friday, my wife had a sudden onset of abdominal pain. Paracetamol and ibuprofen didn't improve things; she needed to get to the emergency department.
My parents were no longer in Singapore and at 1230am, I couldn't leave Raylan home asleep alone. It's about then that I realised how alone I was too; called a few of my friends but didn't get an answer. So I packed her in the taxi for the hospital (6minutes away thank goodness). We kept in touch until she faded into unconsciousness after they gave her a jab of something.
Turns out she was bleeding internally. Surgery happened Sunday and she's in the clear for now. Insurance has been a nightmare for the medical fees (employer's insurance trying to shunt it to the private insurer) although the airlines and Airbnb have been wonderfully kind.
We're heading off to Japan this Sunday instead. Something about taking chances when we have them. To ahem keep things relevant, my load out will probably have to change as I'll probably be taking almost all the load. The original plan was the Fuji 21, Nikon 35/2 and 50/1.2; the latter two on the speedbooster.
Now? I don't know, just the 24/2 and 50/1.2? I can make do with the phone for 28mm coverage...Show more →

My mother and great grandfather had Bechterew. I informed the doctor of this when I went to see him for back problems. Will get a definite diagnose next week, but it pretty much looks like the beast so far. I will insist on getting the right therapy and health support to keep things under control as far as possible.

Sorry to hear about Bechterew... It is the same thing I do suffer for my last 35 years... The problem is that my simptoms were not clear enough and for several years doctors went astray with the diagnostic, doing me a very, very bad thing. So, if is a proper diagnostic and if you look for yourself, is not a big deal. I know you have good doctors but if no anyone in the last three generations of your family did not suffered of Bechterew there are major chances you to have something else and I'll highly recommend a second doctor opinion.
Take care!
Kristina and I eish your wife a speedy recovery. Anything known about what caused this?
I am glad you did the right thing by erring on the side of caution

Yes, I did say that right from the start. I broke the rule a few times however, and reading your account I instantly regret that I did. Still, there are so many things I would like to share, but this world contains individuals that make me think twice and thrice about sharing publicly.
Now that you bring up the topic, there is a little anecdote I can safely share on any platform.
Anouk came into the room a few days ago and told Kristina that she spilled water.
Kristina asked: Where did you spill water?
Anouk answered: In daddys shoe
Kristina asked: How did that happen? Why in daddys shoe?
Anouk answered: So as daddy can not go (Anouk just turned two. Grammar still is something that needs a little practice )
Kristina asked: Where should daddy not go?
Anouk matter of factly stated: So daddy can not go to work (and beamed proudly of her achievement)
I hope your tough time at home soon turns for the better though. Worries at the homefront are the more difficult ones. Worries at work can just be forgotten when you get home, but home is where you want things to be good.
I still do not own a camera. There are lots of cameras calling, and I hear them, but my pockets are still rather empty, and my car broke down again.
As a little bonus, I just got a doctor examine my back, because I suffered from some minor back aches for some months now. As it turns out, I suffer from Bechterews disease. Won't get better, but I can now take care that I try to slow down the rate at which it gets worse.
We were out in the woods yesterday. That still is where I feel most at home. Borrowed Kristinas D800 to make two photos
And here is a photo from my little prototype/EDC I made from a Mora blade. I kind of use this as proof of concept, carrying it with me at work and wherever I go, using it for all kind of tasks. Just to make sure it doesn't break. As long as it doesn't, I know I did the other knives I made well too.
The handle was made of two leftivers of pen blanks and some left over buffalo horn and moose antler

Hi Chin
I hope that your wife will recover fully and that you have a good trip.
Also sorry to hear about the sicko on Flickr - makes my blood boil, should be in jail. I have no problem with quirkiness as long as there's consent and children are left out of it!!
No rhino horn here, although I admit using buffalo horn, moose antler and mammoth tusk in these knife handles because there is nothing comparable to these natural resources.
I promised Kristina to cut back on animal resources and revert to endemic woods and metals as far as customer specification allows for that

Greetings every one and here is a wish for good things happening for everyone ailing! Buddy, Chin all I can say is Ouch!
Chin, I don't subscribe to any other forum beside this one. Your lurker is likely not a person but a BOT programmed to sweep for photo's on some of these forums just like a trawler casts it net for fish. That said there are those that publish photos which would make you ask what are they thinking?
Peter I see you have good shots posted with the new camera and glad you like it.
Scott I see the colors of fall. Very nice to see.
Colin, nice try! But at least you said California coast …. we are off to Long Boat Key in a couple of weeks.
Here's a shot of down home America. We weren't there on a Monday when it's auction day and probably no chance of getting ringside. Oklahoma City Stockyards.
In Knysna there was a business making and selling beautifully carved birds - mostly indigenous. The business became unsustainable and closed but a couple of enterprising youngsters have resurrected it. Two images from a local festival yesterday with the 105 2.5
Following on from George's B&W renderings here are some from the seaside.
Very windy day. Dramatic cloud and sunshine. Lots of sea spray so had to keep camera kit covered.

I really like the look this combo gives but too rich for my blood.
If I had to select one camera and one lens, I would take this combo. It took quite a bit of self wrangling to pull the trigger on the M (did get it as a demo unit), but had to sell some gear and do the occasional job like I did yesterday (although yesterday's wedding video was a gift to a friend) to justify the purchase
Posting one more for the day. This from a walk earlier today looking for fall colors. Same combo.

Do you have any other old Nikkors with this mount?
