Just picked up a late S/N 28mm f2 ais (611xxx) in more preparation for my India trip in January.
(My current alternatives being the 20/3.5 U.D. and 28/3.5 H.C., both with MFD of 0.6m)
How does it compare to the 2.8 ais ? I see the f2 has a 120 degree throw compared to 170 degrees for the f2.8 according to photosynthesis.co.nz, has a slightly longer MFD of 0.25m compared to the f2.8's 0.2, both have CRC and SIC coatings.
Not a perfect example but it was only a little more than a mint f2.8 and the f2.8 can't do f2 !
Rafael - very impressive. Seeing them lined up with each other that way......
Colin - I'm in a similar position. I can't quite figure out what the difference is between the Nikon and Canon mirrorless cameras when it comes to adapting MF lenses. The adapters are pretty much the same whichever you use. I guess there's a point to the Nikon body if you have if you have lots of nikon AF lenses that offer full compatibility but if you're going to use it with MF lenses then......so far.......I can't see much difference between the nikon, canon, or Sony for that matter. In the end it's going to come down to the rest of the system rather than about using MF lenses. My nikkors work beautifully on the M50 but I'm looking at a full frame body. Obviously both Nikon and Canon are going to offer all new lenses. It's interesting that Canon's first offerings, the 50mm f1.2 and the 28 - 70mm f2 are both exceptional glass, but they are unbelievably big and frighteningly expensive. They're so much bigger than the EFS equivalents. Who would have thought that going mirrorless was going to involve this astonishing increase in size and cost. I thought the point was the opposite. These old nikkors are really looking like a bargain now. I'm starting to regret having sold so many of them.

So glad you are enjoying it. Those old lenses are meant to be used.
Did you get a frost last night? End of the growing season? Calling for a chance of patchy frost here tomorrow night. It is a welcome relief from the heat and humidity this summer.
We have had scattered frost 3 mornings this week. I'm not ready for the cold.

I am still excited for most adapted F mount lenses, but will see how the sensor cleaning goes. Especially as much as I change lenses. Not like I would get the Z mount 24-70 and leave it on most of the time.
Seems the shutter could be set to cover the sensor when the camera is off during lens changes by default with a firmware change. Like Leica does and (cough, cough) Canon is doing on their mirrorless that was just released.
Would probably still get it if my Macbook had not died. Need a little more time to build the hobby funds back up. I have mine ordered at a local shop. So I know someone else will pick it up. Plus I also only ordered the body and FTZ adapter bundle. Seems those "packages" will be rare. At least they are for the Z7. I can walk in today and pick up a Z7 package with lens or a body only, but if you want the cost savings of the bundle with the adapter only, those are not available
May be different on your side of the pond.
So I will still stay on the wait list, but may pass when my name is called.
Using the www.oanda.com exchange rate you guys in the US can get a Z6+adaptor+24-70 for about the same price as the Z6 body in the UK. Other countries fare even worse than the UK. Economies of scale and rip-off Britain.
Let's see if you pass up the temptation when the time arrives.......

Which model MB did you get?
Went with the 15" MacBook Pro w/Touch Bar. The newest version since I keep these things forever. Geekbench scores showed a substantial jump in performance compared to the last few models. Especially coming from the original MB Pro Retina.

Which version of 15"? Are you doing all your PPing on it or at least hooking it up to a larger monitor?
Sorry for all the questions, but I'm looking to upgrade my laptop too.

I am re-thinking my Z6 order. Partly because my 7 year old MacBook Pro finally decided it was overdue for an update so my expendable funds went to purchase a new one today
The other reasons I will probably delay a Z6 purchase is using the LTM lenses. The larger lenses will probably be ok (8.5cm and up) but using the small LTM and M lenses adapted is butt ugly to that style body in my opinion.
I am also following discussions around sensor cleaning for the new Z cameras. Since the sensor is exposed during lens changes and because it is such a shallow flange distance it seems to be very prone to dust, etc. I have been cleaning my own sensors for a long time and am very comfortable doing it. But the Z is different with the sensor being mounted on a stabilizer. So may be at risk for pressure of a sensor cleaning the way non stabilized sensors are currently done. I am following Moose Petersons blog and see where that goes.
So for right now, I will run with the D850 and Leica M. Yeah I know. Such a first world problem.
Shooting the LTM lenses on a true rangefinder is such a great experience for me. I may miss critical focus now and then, and it is slower, but for right now, that can't be beat. So the GAS has waned for now.
Nothing is easier than cleaning a mirrorless cam sensor - I use a little ad-hoc brush and I've no problem with the IBIS - that's a much simpler operation than with a DSLR.
Guys, stop reading all these reviews on the web : they are written by/for technicians not by/for photographers… -)
George, first of all I feel your pain as my laptop has not let me upload any photo for a while now. I deleted and re-installed the software and now everything is fine. I'm running a 5 year old windows computer hooked up to a decent monitor so all is good. It is fast enough for the D810 and more than fast with the Df. I really don't want to change.
I agree with Philippe that the "Z" sensor issue is in the mind of the dweebs out there. I do not plan to remove the adaptor and doubt if I'll ever by a native lens for the "Z."
So the results of the photo shoot yesterday at the Lakeland Lake Mirror Car Show. It wasn't as good as the early shows because the local credit union took it over two years ago an made it a format for the display of new cars by the local dealers. This year they returned control to the car clubs and early organizers … still all are not back.
I do all my photo post processing and video work on it. When working at my desk, I have it plugged into an Apple 27" Thunderbolt display (stopped making those a number of years ago) but it is still a great monitor. For backup, I have a LaCie Rugged Raid 4TB (mirrored 2TB configuration).

WOW! You REALLY went all out. Things must fly on that thing. I don't think I'd be able to afford that monster.
I see where Octane is retired so not sure how accurate it may be with new hardware and Mojave OS, but running it in the Chrome browser it came back with Octane Score: 50883

Unbelievable. 4 or 5 years ago, I built a desktop computer with all state of the art hardware. It only gets in the 30's.
I agree, a good computer is essential with our chosen hobby. Enjoy your laptop.
