Well here it is. My best effort with the tools I had
Thanks everyone for the input and recommendations!
Happy to say the grip is very solid again and the blade is as polished as I would like. Did not want to lose the character and some patina from years of use. To make it mirror would have required grinding and removing material. Did not want to go to that level.
I did go with the mineral oil soak of the stag horn and shims and it did restore them to size, so no additional shims were needed. A lot of polishing with rubbing and polishing compound and once done, I finished the whole knife off with a coat of Renaissance Micro-crystaline wax polish.
Since Nikon released a new video trailer last night featuring the legacy NOCT lens, I got it out for this shot. Will be interesting to see what they announce next week.

You know it's bad when you can easily look directly at the sun at 8am in the morning and there's not a cloud in the sky . . . .
Last year it was worse because you could look directly at the sun at noon
Yes, its pretty horrible. At least were getting a couple days break or at least that's what I heard. My family in Cali post stuff and its horrible. Praying for some rain!
Yesterday I had a meet-up with FM-member Joshua Ong from California. The first time we met we where both Canon shooters and now he's Sony and I'm Nikon.
We went out for a blue-hour shooting.
Joshua showed me some nice gadgets on his on camera Sony app, like graduate ND filter and merging multiple images in camera. Those would be nice features on the upcoming Z6 and Z7.

Well, the package came today and I couldn't wait to open it. They are exactly what I expected. Maybe a little "newer" than what I expected.

Hi Guys! Long time no post, but I've been here off and on still admiring everyone's work. I'm back with the Df and a new acquired lens, a non ai 28mm F/2, haven't been able to get out as much as I would like but last night after the air cleared up from all the smoke I went for a quick walk and took some shots...

jose, excellent photos with the 400mm 3.5 and TC301, I have this combo and it is pure joy at a low price.
Good use of the 105 4 micro Mike, love this lens too, and the photo below was taken with it.
Film is film Samy, great work. The red mustand looks true vintage in film.
Fine composition on the gatehouse Scott. Like tractors too.
Jay, the 24mm sunset is outstanding, can you recover the highlights in the D850?
George, I would hang your Mill Pond film BW in my office. Also like the tunnel a lot, but that I would hang in my garage! The NOCT brings sharpness to your knife and great light too.
The Milky way shines Colin. I also like the coloured one better.
Leighton, the soul of summer
Ronny, your outwordly photos become more earthbound in BW but stay equally impressive.
Kristian, sun shining through grass sparkles.
Raul, the 16mm Madrid view esta muy bien compuesta.
Thanks for the nice views of the Hudson Serge.
John, so smoky!
So interesting to see your D200 Peter.
Very classic farm views Ken, Thanks!
Chris love the river lights.
Great set of lenses Chuong.
Thank you Samy and Ken on my Job, I am leaving the Zumwalt after two years to return to LPD with a higher level of responsibility, I will not miss entry and parking delays at the Naval Station and I will enjoy Fridays off, but I will miss the ship immensely. I have already been asked by the Navy to take her photos as she leaves San Diego Bay soon after a year and a half of extensive outfitting. Will take the 800mm and the 50-300mm 4.5 to get very different perspectives.
Sooooo... Since I have no time to go anywhere, decided to compare the two lenses below.
$150 for 24mm 2.8 or $300 for 20mm UD, what is the real difference, coming to this station soon...
So first compare, the 20mm 3.5 and the 24mm 2.8 fully open, set at infirmity and processed exactly the same. This is done for fun, don't get all serious on me.
Both lenses put in a fine performance, the main difference is curvature of field on the 20mm which makes the near ground sharper but the distant edges not so mucn. The processing is copy paste, I see the 24mm being a little more red in color, but this could be the D810 vs the D800, again just playing. Aesthetics cannot be compared as one would have to compose differently depending on the lens.
ADDED LATER: using the image compare in VIEW NXi, the 20mm is much more sharp across the frame. See them at 100%. Beginning to dislike this exercise.
Hereby I present my last comparison of the 24mm N and the 20mm UD.
My copy of the UD is sharper than my copy of the N, when viewed separate the larger magnification of the 24mm was fooling me into thinking the same amount of detail was present. when viewed side by side the 20mm is a clear winner and quite nice everywhere. This disqualifies me as a good tester.
These lenses being so old and potentially poorly repaired/cleaned, this only means that a good copy of the 20mm UD is quite nice, additional samples of the 24mm would be needed to have an opinion on that one. The 24mm has better corners. I should stick to photos of gear, I do that well.
Rafael My 24mm f/2.8 gives me a similar result, it vignettes and is soft.
That sunrise photo needs to be revisited, processing was done hastily on a laptop while traveling and I'm not happy with the results. I'll see if there is more highlight detail to be shown, there usually is on the D850!
Here are some 'street photos' taken at the Crystal Cascade at Watkins Glen with the D850 and the 24mm PC-E.
