I decided to take the scenic detour through the eastern lakes whilst making the trip north to Scotland early this morning.

I managed to buy several old Nikkors over the past two weeks for not a lot of moneys. A few required intensive cleaning and servicing of the helicoid, which I managed to do.
Probably the nicest of the bunch are the Ai Micro-Nikkor 55mm f/3.5 and Ais 35mm f/1.4 Nikkor.
In terms of image quality, the 55mm is just plane amazing. I'm super happy with it.
The Ais 35mm f/1.4 is more a novelty item, since I find it's not amazing optically for landscape work. However, it's not bad, and I took some images at the beach today.
First is a desert sand storm blowing dust over the beach and into the sea.
A long exposure of a rock pool at very low tide.
I also managed to get a Nikkor-P 105mm f/2.5. This lens was butchered by a previous repairer, plus it had half a desert in the lens. The helicoids were gritty and stiff. Also, there was something maligned which caused the optical path to be very skewed left to right.. I reluctantly shaved off the front of the front helicoid ring, where the optical block is tightened against, and slowly managed to get her to focus evenly across the frame again. I had nothing to loose, as the lens would have been a basket case otherwise.
Hopefully over the next few weeks I can start taking pictures with the "new" lenses. So excited.
Just as an indication of how another Micro-Nikkor 55mm f/3.5 looked like from the same owner that had the 105mm f/2.5.... This lens my friend took, since I already had two copies. The 105mm looked similar but not quite as bad.
I got both to feel about good as new...
Thanks Scott! Nice sunrise set
Martin - also a nice set and a reminder that I need to give a couple of my lenses a bit of TLC.
Reagan - cool balloon colours

Still fond of this thread and still loving photography with the old craftsmanship of MF nikkors.
These are not good photos, but those of you who do not know San Diego may be interested in Mission Bay. This'Bay' was dredged onto existence, something not to be done nowadays.
Mission Bay is large, its only purpose human recreation, I almost never go there in summer as it is a crowded place and the North County beaches are more to my liking. Nevertheless it is a remarkable place.
Check the different types of shore, some areas are beach and park, some beach and homes, some Hotels, Sea World is here, boating most definitely allowed. All these are inside the bay, not at the ocean side.
