Raul, I put a Type K3 split image screen from focusingscreen.com in my Df and it works great. Just be careful with keeping up with the shims and careful handling the screen itself. They all scratch easy.

George, I am glad to hear the K3 split image screen worked well with the DF. That is the same screen version I ordered from focusingscreen. I'll be very careful installing the screen when I receive it. I will do it in the morning after the coffee has settled a bit and I am sure my watch repair tools will be handy for the task.

Reagan,
We had another few inches of snow this weekend in the UK.
My wife and I are looking forward to that warm, sunny, spring weather during our upcoming vacation and also the opportunity to meet you and Ken H if schedules permit.

Thank you for your compassionate comments! It is good to once again look at your inspiring photos from all over the world.
My family and I are fine. But my music friend from Malmö died a month ago of secondary pneumonia.

Not at all as impressive as Scott's waterfall. Shot using the versatile 50-135 F3.5 'Leighton Lens'.

@Fred Miranda@, what qualified as a "Super Big" thread? The Automotive thread went from 90 pages to 1 page.

Fred, Automotive is still only one page. and now the 19/24/45/85 PC-E Tilt-Shift Thread https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1353567 had nine pages, 164 posts, and is down to one now. What was the limit where the neutering of the thread kicked in? How many pages/posts was it set for? So far the Nikon FX thread seems to have managed to escape the gelding of the conversations, hints and tips there.

Yes, it's only one page because it's showing all the threads from this year on the live forum. However, the previous posts are still accessible by clicking on the "View previous posts" link (Look at my second post on that thread).
That will give you access to all archived posts. (You are able to navigate back and forwards, meaning archive posts and live posts)

What constitutes a split thread? Threads with more than 150 posts showing a mix of archive and current year posts.

That's the info I was looking for, Fred. Thanks. It still makes it hard to find posts though, does the search function work on those posts that are hidden in this manner?

I went wandering in the new archive yesterday so had already seen it, I meant the one page was what is currently visible without clicking the link.

So now this thread has two page 422, depending on if you're in the current view or the archive view. :/

Reagan,
Some threads are from 2002 and have hundreds of thousand of posts on them. Up until now, I was able to keep these gigantic threads on the live forum under the same database table. However, even with our very powerful sever, this is causing constant server crashes...it's just too much load...

The solution: Instead of having the older archived posts from previous years only available by search, I implemented a way that keeps the 'structure' of these threads intact on the live forum while the very old posts (archives) although not shown initially are accessible by clicking on a link.
So, If one want to see the previous posts from many years back, all that's needed is to navigate to my 2nd post and click on the "View older posts" link. That's it. That will load the archives table and all older posts will be visible. To go back to the current year's posts, just find my second post again and click "View newer posts"...

It's not something I wanted to do but sometimes we have to get creative maintaining 17+ years of content. My goal is to make this resource still available to all members. Yes, it will now take an extra click but that's the best workaround I could develop and I hope we get used to it.

Thanks for your understanding,
Fred

I appreciate the effort Fred, especially the fact you're keeping all the older posts from the thread. Interesting that posts with link to some hosts still display those photos within the archived thread, while other hosts yield only the URL to access the photos. I originally had photos hosted by Picasa which Google shutdown a few years after buying the company. They continued to allow old photos to be accessed, but my guess is when the change was made to archive these posts, it was enough of a change for Google to treat those links differently. Clearly, that is not your problem and I doubt anyone who wants to go back into this seven and a half year old thread will be concerned about pressing a link if they really want to see what I contributed.

The archive now seems to work just fine, though as I mentioned to you elsewhere, it would be nice for the toggle to move between current posts and archive to be available at the top of each page rather than buried in a single post near the beginning of the thread. I imagine that would add a bit of complexity to your task, but it would certainly make it easier for folks to understand what is happening. I think even our friend Reagan would be able to handle that arrangement.

But thanks for keeping us informed and for answering questions as they arise.

Thanks Fred. Actually, it works rather well to go to the second post and click the link. I don't know what else you could have done. Sure beats deleting them.

In the end...I guess this is the price you/we pay for having such a popular site.

I have not checked infinity issue with my 3.5/55 micro since the last time I mentioned. I should look into it.

Samy,

Thank you. That person actually was taking a nap. He was one of the vendor, and probably was a slow day for him. What caught my eyes was that he placed the chair right infant of that sign.

Luka, took a few today but with poor results. But I guess the results in this case depended more on the person behind the camera/lens than the lens itself .

Not sure this one really qualifies as a test shot, it´s most clouds and sky.

I´ll see if I can make a proper session this week.

Made me look up the Window XP background to see what camera/lens took that shot.
