Curtis - nice thing about these 50's is they render very well shot wide open so 6 blade vs 9 blade doesn't really matter
Following the theme from Peter's Driftwood Dolphin with another "nifty fifty" shot from the university yesterday. Not driftwood but metal. Keeping watch over the "pack" on campus.

Nice shot. Itīs really good wide open. Iīm like Leighton I dont have any 50īs left. Ok, I got one Af but thatīs it. Suddenly I now understand I need to go and get one of those.

Rafael - Yes, that's the tick mark 9-blade. I have two other 9-blade lenses w/o tick mark. Another 9-blade on its way here. You see, I have serious NMFAS.
What is this tick mark 9blade? How do I identify it and why is it better?

What Leighton, after all these years as gatekeeper of the thread and you don't have a manual 50 Nikkor
Well, I had the 50 f1.2, but sold in order to get my Fuji kit. No regrets. The ever so generous George offered to loan me a 6-bladed 50, but I told him I was holding out for the nine-bladed.
Nice write up there by Stephen Gandy - good link George. The tick mark lenses are identical to the later 9-bladed F-mount lenses, except for the tick marks. They are definitely not better, just a lot rarer. Fantastic quality, whether they are tick marked or 9-bladed. And the later 6-bladed ones aren't exactly shabby either, the only difference is some of the out of focus characteristics, and that too only when stopping down.
From a couple of samples I have, some of the tick mark lenses have a longer rear lip of their aperture ring, which prevent mounting on the Df. Other folks here haven't had that issue with tick mark lenses.
It has made it back to 62 today So the shorts are back on

Absolutely, a 50 is a 50! And plus this is classic gear from the '50s!! Excellent portrait of the S2 + 5cm 1.4, and very cool scene with it Scott!
Thanks,Samy. I'm glad you are the one with snow rather than me! It's plenty cold here, though. It hasn't made it out of the 30's in almost a week.
I was in Baltimore in September on business. It was my first time there in about 20 years. My wife and I stayed right next to Camden Yards. It was a very short visit, but we managed to take in a game and have a romantic dinner in Little Italy.

Here you go Leighton... at less than the cost of a 50 f/1.2...
It has been stinking hot and humid here in the Tropics as it always is at this time of year but as I write the weather has at last broken. We did in fact get a night in Cape Tribulation rainforest on Thursday in a tent cabin in a thunderstorm which was fun.
While at the wooden cabin shown earlier we did at least have this rather nice dam to swim in. It had a rowing boat and a jetty to sit on too and platypus to spot if you kept very quiet.
Cabin fever has set in, and I'm getting out of here tomorrow, armed with some 50's, and some other lenses. Gonna wander around the museum a bit tomorrow.
Looks rather like a tropical paradise Andy... you're out sunning Florida and definitely helping those knee deep in snow remember that green still exists on this big round globe... Thanks for that.
Well, the card slot on my Df broke tonight. Looks like a couple pins bent and the card will not lock in the slot. So will start calling around on Monday to look for repair options. Not sure if 3rd parties like APS can get parts like this or not or if I am stuck with the extremely slow Nikon Repair in NY.
Posting my last image from the Df. The S mount 12 aperture blade "nifty fifty".
Looks like I will be limited to shooting Nikon glass on adapted bodies for a while.

Sorry to hear this, George. I think you should take this opportunity to shoot lots of film!
