All this from picking up a small box incorrectly. Box was a lot heavier than it looked, as soon as I picked it up, my upper body shifted and there was a loud pop and immediate searing pain down my spine. I have not been able to stand up straight since.

George, These adapted Nikkors look great. Been going a bit crazy with old enlarger lenses on film and digital medium format. I lose track counting the iris blades.

Thought I would try and show you my latest fascination - iris blades. One of my first cameras was the very first slr the Exa 1a manufactured by the inverter of the slr in 1936-1938. It came with a Carl Zeiss 58mm f2 Biotar that had seventeen iris blades. I hate to think how many times I counted those blades - it sure was pretty. The photos I have shot with these enlarging lenses have the roundest bokeh balls ever - just beatiful bokeh. I already had an El-Nikkor collection, and had sold about half of them. That is when I stumbled across Wollensak enlarging lenses. I use to have a 10.5 inch Wollensak in a copal shutter for an old 4x5 - sold long ago. I found other manufacturers with excellent quality lenses like Novoiflex - and all these vintage unused lenses are extremely inexpensive now. I can hardly see the type on the screen, and I am sure there will focus stacking errors, but hopefully you will get the idea

This sounds like a pretty a scary situation, Kevin! I do hope the decision-makers will develop the appropriate sense of urgency and get on with properly attending to your injury very soon.

Thanks Siphiwe. Even as the world shifts to driving computerized sewing machines, I suspect there is no danger that their adoption will shift the avid vintage car guys. Their relationships with their internal combustion engines and the lore of automotive history and mechanical minutiae have proven highly resilient in the face of social pressure to change!

Thanks Serge. The interesting autos around here emerge from their hidey holes each summer to gather for the "Show 'n' Shine" season. Otherwise, they are not particularly visible. I have discovered that it is necessary to get out of large cities to find the best car shows. When I lived in the east end of the suburban Toronto area, I found the shows further to the east and/or north, away from Toronto. Perhaps it is the same in New York.
Here is my final set of images from Hot August Nights 2025, all from my IR converted Fuji X-T2 with the 24 f/2.8 NC. As the fourth one in the set demonstrates, it is very difficult to avoid selfies when photographing big, shiny, curvy objects.

You might need to lawyer up at this point. Cauda equina syndrome is no joke. Before my surgery, it was a constant question they asked me as well. My fusion was L4-L5 and L5-S1, and it affected my left leg and right foot. Glad I had the surgery, and I lift up to 70 pounds now at work with proper lifting techniques, but the repetitive bending and lifting isn't all that great for me either... Starting a new bid next week.

Kevin, I’m so sorry to hear about your spinal issues. I certainly hope you have somebody to be a forceful advocate for you in our current, dysfunctional medical system. As you undoubtedly know, chronic pain is exhausting, making it nearly impossible to advocate for oneself. As we learned during my partner’s years with cancer, it’s a full-time job just dealing with both the medical system and the insurance industry. And do I sound angry. Hell yes. I personally know too many cases — including my own — of denied coverage from insurance companies that see their primary mission as rewarding investors rather than providing medical coverage.
I’m fortunate in having partial relief from the cervical spinal pain that immobilized me for a couple of years. I hope you’re able to find relief soon.
