Thanks Leighton and Ani. We were about a half a mile or so down the beach. That is one time when it paid to have that small plastic bag in the pocket to put the camera in. Needless to say we got drenched.

Welcome Martin. Quite a find with the lenses and a very nice image of the beach. A lot of these old lenses just need to be worked to keep them turning smoothly. Enjoy your time with us.
Thank you very much.

You have already perfectly figured out 20mm f/4 pros and cons, enjoy it!
Edges and corners never get sharp but, due to field curvature, a little focus ring turn towards infinity helps a little for landscapes. If you have closer objects on the corners and edges a good sharpness can be achieved all over the image. It's also true that this little lens seems to meet whit diffraction at smaller apertures, I use it mainly at f/11 or f/16, it could be a f/8 lens and I will use it anyway. Center sharpness and contrast are excellent.
Two examples with Sony A7RII, the first one shows the smearing but the second one is quite sharp to the extreme corners because objects are closer there.
Thank you. Your images look great. I think you have a better sample than mine. My 20mm seems to behave a little asymmetric, although the plain of focus is even throughout most of the frame, the far right hand side has different aberrations to the far left, and stopping down makes the right side shift focus towards the camera whereas the left looks unchanged. At f/5.6 and f/4 the far edges sharpen up symmetrically but awash with spherical aberrations.
Anyways, it's still more practical than my AFS 14-24.

I sold my 14-24 after I bought a copy of the 20mm f3,5 UD Nikkor. It turned out to be about just as sharp as th emodern zoom at 20mm. Sometimes I miss the 14mm setting, but on such days I take the 16mm f3,5 fish eye along and am just as happy
In that last picture I see a 1962 Plymouth Sport Fury of which you never posted a picture Rafael. And that even though you know it is one of my absolute favorite cars from that era (or any era after that one for that matter)

Buddy, your wish is my command, here are a few Plymouth Sport Furys, Max Wedge and Hemi included.
As consolation there was a 62 Dodge, its near twin. But it was running, people were covering their ears and crowding around it so the photos are not that good......
The driver was the original owner, at 86 years of age.....
At last the 5.8cm f1.4 arrived from Japan, and, for my delight no tax was charged!
Sometimes the Customs of the corrupt Brazilian government leave us alone!
After a truly easy ai conversion (for some here this is blasphemy!), the debut shot:

D610 + Nikkor-S Auto 5.8cm f/1.4 wide open.
Have I already told you guys that this thread is just for grey/white bearded old farts?
This is my oldest lens, some 3 years older than myself
And a B&W version of the ai'd lens mounted in my D610, with another oldie, the 55/1.2 wide open:
V1 + FT1 + Nikkor-S.C 55mm f1.2 aiŽd, wide open.
Some grain added over the already grainy V1's ISO 800 shot....Show more →
Looking good Jose! Bonus on the ease of customs this time around too
