Colin I have grown out of Clint Eastwood movies but after seeing all those Eiger scenes I will have to rewatch that Eiger Sanction movie just to compare the scenes you are posting.

I guess the ‘4’ fell of your keyboard.
Everything on the second version is a little better/faster than on the first version.
You have two card-slots.
Perhaps main thing is the 900 seconds shutterspeed on the II in manual mode.
Z8 will be more MPx I guess. Lot of people think it will be a baby Z9 (AF goodies) and it will be expensive. You probably have to wait until CP+ (end February). If they announce a Z8 the market will be flooded with Z7 (II)’s.
So I would wait for a few more weeks.
As I think you’re not interested in AF speed a Z7 will be the best option....Show more →

I am ready to buy a 5mp camera, either a Z7 or a Z7II, will bypass the D850 as I have a D800 and a D810.
Any advice on either? should I wait for the Z8?
For your shooting style, you'll likely be happy with any of the first 4x Z6/7 bodies. They're different than D series for sure. It's worth waiting to see if we get an update to any of these or a Z8 or mini Z9 (or anything) at CP+. I would love some of the AF chops of the Z9 over what my Z6 offers but much of what I miss is just due to learning the different way it works. I actually expect the 7ii price to dip more proportionally than the original 7 as a lot of folks have realized that if you aren't shooting erratic/high speed objects or just want a higher MP stills body, these are a great deal and will likely retain them as backup cameras for Z7ii's, Z9's, etc.
I must confess that I just bought another 5cm 1.4 in black, liked it better than chrome and it came with a mint hood, which are really hard to find. I can still return the chrome one.
Will compare the two and consider keeping the better one, but I like the black one a lot more.
This is an ebay photo, a bad one, the cap goes to garbage, have several 43mm Nikkor caps. nikkor 5cm black rf by Rafael Batlle, on Flickr
Colin, Thanks for the info about the lens. I have a stableful of manual focus ai-s lenses, but the sharpness and clarity from your 50mm f/2 HC, at the Eiger, has got me thinking of acquiring one of these. Mike

The 50mm f/2 HC is a very nice lens (I have the single-coated H) but I‘d say it’s main appeal is build quality and ergonomics. Sharpness is excellent esp stopped down, but not exceptionally good for a double-gauss 50mm. My 50mm f/1.4 Ai-S is slightly better stopped down and I‘d guess the f/1.8 versions would at least match it as well. But it would be nearly impossible to tell them apart even on a 45mp sensor
Confession is a step in the right direction Rafael

Curtis is(present tense) a master of this kind of shot. He'd probably wait for the light to fall on the petals before pointing his trusty Df at it. Oh well, here's my take with one of Leighton's favourite lenses.

Scott, wonderful view of our galaxy at the harbor. I wonder if you can see the green comet (maybe around for this week and then back in something like 50,000 years). Too much light pollution here for me to even try.
Got hold of a 105 2.5 AIS. Nothing new for that focal length, I have a few already What's new is its CPU'd! My first manual Nikkor with a little square that turns green on the Nikon mirrorless system!!! Have been testing focus with the green box today, it definitely augments what I can do with the highlights.
The lens is definitely un-Rafaelesque in looks. Have to clean up the glass front and rear, but the scratches and marks will stay. The barrel is what it is.
Is it a dandelion chip? I have been leery to try putting one on mine by cutting the small rear baffle. Wondering how yours is mounted. I still have 3 chips left. I actually forgot I had them and came across them cleaning out some boxes. I did put chips on the 20mm/3.5, 28/2, 50/1.8 and 135/2.8. Really comes in handy for focus confirmation and shutter priority on the Z body.
Only thing I don't like is you can't transfer aperture control to the lens and have to shoot it set to minimum aperture and use the front command dial or get the FEE message. Unless I am missing a setting. I know I can do it on the Df and the other DSLRs I had.

George, will take a picture to post, I have never had a chipped lens before so am not sure what a dandelion chip looks like. The FEE error got me for a few seconds until I turned the aperture ring to minimum. The Z7II viewfinder actually reminds me to set the aperture if I don't. I don't mind it too much, have to do that with modern lenses anyway.
I will grab a shot of my chips tomorrow and post for comparison. Chris Dees has lenses that were custom done with repurposed Nikon chips I think. Better option than epoxy with the dandelions. But they work

On the left is a Nikkor-SC Auto 1:1.2 f=55mm AI-ed Chipped with a Dandelion.
On the right is a Nikkor-PC Auto 1:2.5 f=105mm AI-ed Chipped with a regular Nikon chip.
The Dandelions are flimsy and my friend needed 3 of them.
The regular chips are much better, but not available anymore. I have another friend with good connections to Nikon and he had always a couple of these chips in his inventory.
The 55/1.2 is probably the only one in the world with a chip, he had to grind off a little bit of the glass.
He also chipped to 58/12 noct's, his nickname is Doctor Lens.
