Thanks George and Leighton for your well-wishes. It seems that the worst of the sickness has passed, though I have no idea how long the remaining symptoms might linger. So far it has been about equivalent to a bad cold.
Rafael, the darkness issue is non-existent for viewfinding purposes on the X-T4's electronic VF. I'm not sure I understand what you mean when you say that the TC's don't support the f/2 aperture. My uninformed brain observes that the actual mechanical aperture blades on the lens freely open to the f/2 setting, so how might the TC's affect this non-mechanically?
While you work on coming up with an answer that I might be able to comprehend, here are a few shots taken from the balcony of my condo with the 840mm combo (I did not feel entirely unlike paparazzi as I imagined what my neighbours might be thinking ). For the first and last shots I set the lens at f/5.6. For the middle one, I set it at f/2.8. For each photo I provide the full image followed by a 100% crop.
It looks to me as though the distance to the subject in the first photo allowed some atmospheric haze to blur the image. Predictably, however, none of the images is what you could call an exemplar of clinical-grade sharpness!...Show more →
Ok let’s simplify: the hole at the rear of the 200mm 2.0 is big. The hole at the front of the TC is small, you will not get the advantage of the 2.0 aperture. The 180mm 2.8 ED may be a more practical choice.
Glen,
I hope your recovery is swift and uneventful. My end of June run in with Covid is still not completely over, but mostly minor in severity. Still so thankful to have been twice vaxed, and twice boosted before it occurred.

In my previous post, I mentioned that I have been mentally romancing the idea of putting my 200 f/2 Ai-s to use in the near future. Well just this morning, my slow-moving little brain (partly to blame is the bout of Covid I am going through this week---happy am I, though, that it waited until I was double-vaxxed and double-boosted before it struck!) caused me to sit up in my sick bed with the tiny-mind-blowing realization that I possess some gear that will help make the 200 into an awe-inspiring super-telephoto monster.
Please see the image below---shot with the 35 f/1.4 Ai-s on my trusty D800E---of my newly discovered 840mm f/5.6 (equivalent) mounted on my Fuji X-T4, with a TC-14B and a TC-201 aiding the cause....Show more →
I haven’t been taking any pictures for awhile. I got COVID Aug. 2 even though double vaxxed and double boosted. Paxlovid helped, but then I got rebound with all the initial symptoms plus vomiting and diarrhea. Weight dropped to 106 lbs. Feeling much better now, but still very low energy. I’ll be 73 next week, and prior to COVID I definitely didn’t feel my age. Now I feel more like 93.
Several pics with 55/3.5 Micro on Df including a marmorated stinkbug on clematis. These nasty critters cause lots of crop damage here.
Ken,
I am sorry to learn of your health news. If I was 106 pounds; I'd be eating ice cream at least a couple times per day. Hope you can soon feel normal, or even younger than your age. Beautiful macros.

Let's see if I can remember how to do this.
It's been more than 2 years since I last held the Fuji nor used any MF Nikons.
I, too, have grown accustomed to that device in my pocket; computational photography is pretty damn amazing (and AI art but that's something else... ahem)
Ah, but I finally took a trip out a couple of weeks ago, my first since before covid, with visa issues pushing me to New Zealand instead.
Amazingly beautiful country and I could not resist bringing gear along.
As much as I love the phone, it can't do astro.
The camera batt died and I had to reset all settings, I don't even remember what were my preferences.
User guides online have moved on to the latest and greatest.
The dials and menus and shortcuts, they all feel so unfamiliar, muscle memory relied on muscles already atrophied.
Hey I even dropped my camera twice (forgot to cinch back to the strap as a failsafe) while locking it it on to the ballhead (missed the foot and just twisted the knob then walked away).
But I told myself, the group's still active on FM...
So here I am.
Fuji XT-20 w/ 135mm 2.8
Wish I brought the metabones adapter along (a recurring regret throughout the trip)

Always a pleasure seeing your work, Ken. These are outstanding, imho. Welcome back and wishing you a full recovery. Hope you have also healed completely from the earlier one.
It's there, if you upload a photo directly to FM. Flickr links and other sites don't get that option.Flickr won't let you see the info unless you go directly to their site and hunt for wherever the current spot is for it that month...

SInce he's enamoured of the 96 dpi photos he gets with his phone, I'll do him a favor and take that D5 and Noct off his list. ....

Speaking of lightweight kits, I'll post a shot of my heir apparent to the Noct and anything else he wants. This was from the other weekend and is at the top of the waterfalls I posted last week.
It is hard to convince him to carry the heavy D5 when he gets great shots from the device he has in his pocket to start with. Sometimes I wonder why I carry a backpack full of gear. Oh yeah, the glass

Rafael,
Wow, looks pristine! You wouldn't happen to have an extra - slightly marked up - HK-14 lens hood that you would like to unload in the pursuit of funding your next camera body - would you?

Pretty soon we'll all need Nikon F to cell-cam adapters just to share pics on here, George. Better get your use out of that D5!
Monster combo there Ken. Where would you even hold that beast if you were to handhold?
Wonderful night time desert shots, Jay! Like others, I love the shape of the Joshua Trees.
Congrats on the new acquisition Rafael. When can we see images from that fresh new sensor and lens?
Thanks Laura. I found another slightly less expensive one, and it is on it's way. Hopefully the Nikon proprietary version won't clip the corners like the metal screw on versions I already have do.

Thanks guys. I ... I don't know how to say this but covid messed me up badly. Didn't get it myself but the caretaking, the isolation, the existential crisis, well it all kinda took a toll on me. I've got good days and I've got dark ones, though these days it's a lot less of the latter. Picked up riding a bike again (after twenty years!) and I credit that to keeping me sane throughout.
