Nice shots Jim and thanks for sharing the details of that set up.
We have not seen the first Monarch this year. Despite almost daily walks in a field where there is/was native milkweed.

One of the thinga I really miss is being able to get up and down easily. I could squat, kneel, or lay postrate to get low angles when I needed. It was one part of my style that is much more difficult. Macro, in situ, is more difficult now, but I have found a work-around. The D7200 the 200mm f4 ais micro (tripod mount removed), and the TC-16A make for a lightweight (about 1500 gram) 480mm effective focal length macro lens. Long reach and comfortable working distance...WIN-WIN!
How is the rangefinder patch? Crisp? That is the only complaint I have on my S2. Thinking it probably has something to do with the extra 45 years of age vs the 2000 edition

Proof that I am gone off the deep end.
Been considering what digital camera to get, GFX, Z7II?
Considerations:
1-most of my RF or special mount lenses are good but not 40+MP good, the Z6 serves those well. The only newer lens I own that works only on the mirrorless (for me to focus) is the 800mm 5.6, I don't use it enough to justify a new camera for it. Z6 servers me well for the unique type lenses that don't mount on SLRs and the SLR lenses that need extra accurate focusing.
2-My D3, D800, and D810 from 2008, 2012 and 2017 still work perfectly for all my ai and ais lenses, (As do my Fs and F2s from 40-50 years ago, and the D200 for that matter). Would like a D850 but cannot justify it.
3-Not sure I want to spend more than $2K total.
So here is my brand new digital camera!!!!! Just fell on my lap.
What did the seller mean about loading a new sensor every time??
I never rely on EXIF data unless something has gone horribly wrong with some image I messed up so I'm wondering what the appeal is in viewing this info on line? Somebody fill me in, I don't get it!
I'm reminded of Minor White's reply when he was asked about his camera settings - "The camera was faithfully used."
Reagan I believe you are correct, I have used that 24mm PC-E so much it's focal length is worn down to 23.6mm!
Jay,
The The EXIF and IPTC are automatically recorded for a number of reasons. It not only records the camera make, model & serial number, but it also records the lens, lens maker, and lens serial number. This can be used for later reference, or to prove copyright ownership. Whenever you shoot a photo - you instantly own the copyrights, and there is no need to register your copyright. For MF Nikkors, unless chipped, the lens data is not recorded, or incomplete. George mentioned Lens Tagger a week or two ago, and I have made it a part of my regular workflow. I had tried so many metadata editors that I gave up years ago. Lens Tagger is simple, and to the point. All my MF lens photos are tagged now - Which reminds me - I need to Paypal some money to the guy that wrote Lens Tagger.
As to exif browser addons - I have three installed, because some get info others don't. I also have installed an amazing reverse image search addon call "TinEye".

George,
The numbers are way down, and I only saw six that day. Two doing the mating flutter thing. All of them were slightly smaller than the size of a single wing - compared to the last time I saw them.

Rafael,
Wow, looks pristine! You wouldn't happen to have an extra - slightly marked up - HK-14 lens hood that you would like to unload in the pursuit of funding your next camera body - would you?

In my previous post, I mentioned that I have been mentally romancing the idea of putting my 200 f/2 Ai-s to use in the near future. Well just this morning, my slow-moving little brain (partly to blame is the bout of Covid I am going through this week---happy am I, though, that it waited until I was double-vaxxed and double-boosted before it struck!) caused me to sit up in my sick bed with the tiny-mind-blowing realization that I possess some gear that will help make the 200 into an awe-inspiring super-telephoto monster.
Please see the image below---shot with the 35 f/1.4 Ai-s on my trusty D800E---of my newly discovered 840mm f/5.6 (equivalent) mounted on my Fuji X-T4, with a TC-14B and a TC-201 aiding the cause.

George, those are the ebay photos, don't have the camera yet, it has been shipped from Japan via DHL.
These cameras were originally sold by Nikon for $6,000. There is a supply of the kit always in e-bay, but must have moved from new to mint used, and the price is creeping up, it was never below $1,500. and I got this one for a little more.
The black on is more attractive but nearly twice the price, and of course the ' holy grail' is the Black SP with the 35mm 1.8, but that is at least $5K.
Glad to have pulled the trigger on this credibly new Millennium S3, the Millennium 50mm 1.4 lens is highly rated too, a totally new design by Tochigi Nikon.
I could trade it for your nocturnal if you want!!! ( as long as it is mint)
Please update when you get it. I need to read up on the 2000 edition of the 50/1.4.
Yes the Noct is mint and it is one that I will keep and pass down. Works great in 6x6 crop on the Hassy too
Must stay away from eBay, repeat 3 times and not look at this thread again

Hang in there with that darn virus and look forward to your results with this configuration.

Glen, the TCs don't support a 2.0 aperture,. I think they support 1:4. The combo is interesting but darker that one would think. Anxious to see the results you get.
Speaking of lightweight kits, I'll post a shot of my heir apparent to the Noct and anything else he wants. This was from the other weekend and is at the top of the waterfalls I posted last week.
It is hard to convince him to carry the heavy D5 when he gets great shots from the device he has in his pocket to start with. Sometimes I wonder why I carry a backpack full of gear. Oh yeah, the glass

Using his iphone, when he has a perfectly fine D5 right behind him!
Thanks George and Leighton for your well-wishes. It seems that the worst of the sickness has passed, though I have no idea how long the remaining symptoms might linger. So far it has been about equivalent to a bad cold.

Rafael, the darkness issue is non-existent for viewfinding purposes on the X-T4's electronic VF. I'm not sure I understand what you mean when you say that the TC's don't support the f/2 aperture. My uninformed brain observes that the actual mechanical aperture blades on the lens freely open to the f/2 setting, so how might the TC's affect this non-mechanically?
While you work on coming up with an answer that I might be able to comprehend, here are a few shots taken from the balcony of my condo with the 840mm combo (I did not feel entirely unlike paparazzi as I imagined what my neighbours might be thinking ). For the first and last shots I set the lens at f/5.6. For the middle one, I set it at f/2.8. For each photo I provide the full image followed by a 100% crop.
It looks to me as though the distance to the subject in the first photo allowed some atmospheric haze to blur the image. Predictably, however, none of the images is what you could call an exemplar of clinical-grade sharpness!

May your heir apparent prefer the millennium S3, millennium 50mm, and the 80-200mm 2.8 ais to the noct??
