Red, Green, and snow! Too early for a Christmas picture I suppose. 50-135mm, the "macro" mode at 50mm is not quite so macro, I think I was at the close limit here.
Another, processed, 500mm f8 reflex Nikkor-C image cropped from a 16 image stitch shooting across Lake Washington in 2014. I heard the mountain is approximately 60 miles away from the lake. With some imaging work - this lens is better than I initially thought. Living and still learning.
Jim - that's very spectacular. I guess the 500mm collapses the perspective and makes the mountain seem so close, like it's on top of the town. Is the dark border of the trees at the base a processing artefact?
Ben
I was thinking the same thing... a nose diaper and chin diaper in the same shot.
The linked mask would be great for me for work! Wonder if they'd consider it a safety hazard though...

Ben,
Seriously, is your dark style inspired by the old "Black Plaque" like images, and to capture the new covid-19 plaque? This one has the added bonus of how to wrongly wear a mask with two examples. I was just thinking if you could hire someone to photo bomb some of your images wearing one of those bird beak masks that they used for the black plaque it would be quite effective. They are on sale now since Halloween has passed. Link here

Ben,
I think there are a couple things going on near the base of the mountain. One, is there are other ridges running parallel to the foreground far lake shore and the mountain's base. Two, there are low hanging clouds near the base of the mountain, and they are casting a shadow on the mountain, and those ridges. So, they are trees, but in shadow (plus a smog between ridges?) - not a processing artifact.

Laura,
Since I am a transplant survivor - I get really nasty looks whenever I go to the store, because I have been wearing a mask since April 2017. Masking in my area has largely been abandoned - which is why now 1 out of 10 Covid-19 cases in America are in Michigan. If I really wanted to paint a target on myself I would wear one of those bird-like masks next time I go to Home Depot. Nah, I will stay holed up until it is safe again.

We were in Walmart this morning and a PS announcement from the store came over the sound system. They were asking their customers to please follow their Covid rules by social distancing and wear a mask if you have not been fully vaccinated. I took a little offence at that since I am fully vaccinated and have had my booster, and still wear a mask. I haven't had the flu or even a cold since mask wearing started and I'm not about to quit now! I have spent the last 7 months in and out of the surgery dept in our local hospital with this stupid kidney issue and yesterday marked my 5th procedure and hopefully last one. Having said all of that, viva la mask!
I need to read and enjoy this great thread, but for now I am busy, busy, busy,
I was very pleased with the 8mm f/8 fisheye, it is nearly perfect, with perfect glass - will do a photo session of the lenses as soon as I get some time.
Two defects, the protector sheet metal tube at the back was bent and in the image path, it will be fixed but for now I just removed it, on mirrorless adapters it is not needed; the second defect is the broken cap, disclosed by seller. These caps are very hard to find, they are used by the 6mm, 7.5mm, 8mm and 10mm OP fisheye as well as the 2.1cm. These were low production volume lenses and also the 2.1cm will break the cap if not aligned properly before removing.
There were a couple of these 3 F caps on sale on the bay but they are too worn. Found a seller that has a couple of like new ones. This seller was selling them as part of a large batch of caps, but I convinced him to sell me just one ($$$)

You had another procedure yesterday Leighton ? (Did I read that right?) How did it go? Here masks and distance are mandatory indoors regardless of vaccination. Soon masks will also be mandatory outdoors. All of that is generally accepted. The controversial part is that you are not allowed entry to certain places, like public transport, bars, restaurants without a green pass (ie a vaccination certificate) so it's not so much about wearing masks or not, it's about being allowed to enter at all.
I read a great article on Japan and how they have had virtually zero hospitalisations in the last 4 weeks. The virus has rapidly dissipated. There are various theories as to why that might be. But whatever the reason, I'm hoping the same for all of us.
Leighton hope you're bouncing back, "procedures" are never fun. It takes me quite a while just to recover from the dentist.

Well, there was a stent (tube) from my bladder to my kidney inside the ureter for the last month. They put me to sleep and the surgeon went up through my you-know-what and pulled it out. I feel MUCH better. Thanks. I go back in 6 weeks to have a special xray that uses radioactive material to see if everything is flowing properly, if so, I'm good to go! ALL of this because of a stuck kidney stone back in the first week of May.

Leighton - thank you for telling me that..... for giving me a great laugh. That's a wonderful expression: "the surgeon went through your you know what".......... haven't heard that in 30 or 40 years, like "down there", " nether regions" and "private parts". I remember when I was a child a friend of our family had an operation, we were very worried and I asked her husband what the matter was, and he said to me , "you know, women's business". I was 8 and I actually had no idea what he was talking about. It was a great mystery to me.
Well thank god they've taken it out. Yeah, I can imagine you must feel much better with that out of you. I wish you a speedy and complete recovery Leighton, you've got a long telephoto to buy and photos to take!

I love the B&W Andy, whereas on the ones from a few days ago I'd have gone for the colour. This one was an easier choice.
Leighton, I'm sorry about the health issue. I was surprisingly struck by the same in April 2019. It was so sudden. One moment I was bending over to pick a child's shoe, the next I was in so much pain I was sweating. I was sure I was dying until it was diagnosed as a stone. I had the stent inserted to the same spot, and had it in for a week. The bruising had me in so much pain. Then after a week they destroyed the stone with a laser which was inserted the same way. They also put me under. Again, so much pain for weeks due to the bruising and running a liquid substance over it a couple of times a day. I'm so sorry you are going through the same but you will recover.
Well that sucks! When they cracked me in two and inserted the new to me kidney - guess what else they did...Yeah, they put a stent in the same place leighton and Siphiwe - AND - nothing other than some numbing gel to remove it 6 weeks post op. I told the doc that spot was "for output only", and then afterwards that it was "the last time he would ever see me". Getting old ain't for no sissies.
