Philippe,
Shouldn't there be a speech bubble by the woman saying: "regarde un touriste américain dans une chemise banlon avec ses poches bourrées de camelote"? Hoping google translate did that correctly.
Jim
haha Jim, but you know, we love American tourits who visit us, they are usually very francophile and more than welcome here.

Ben, 85/1.8? you have already got rid of your new toy?
I've already answered on Flickr - no, in fact I've fallen in love with the 10.5 cm, it's my current favourite. And luckily I'm not having anywhere near as much trouble focussing with it as I am with the 5cm f1.4.
I'm going to take a wild stab at it - is it loitering? You'd think he would pick a better spot with less trash. Someone should do something
about that.

We have very important municipal elections in Rome and some other cities this weekend. Guess what is the major electoral issue ?
Didn't mean to imply that France wasn't welcoming. There are so many elements in that photo.
The massive amount of polyester like plastic clothing, the scratch, the bulging pockets, the
woman signage, and the coat tied around the waist. My first thought was "are Americans that
conspicuous even in grayscale?"

Philippe - I've already commented on Flickr, so I won't repeat it all, but yeah, wonderful.
Colin - I'm a total sucker for IR. Does the 24m really have such prominent hexagonal flare spots . That's a weird shape for flare. Have you accentuated it in post or is it an IR artefact?
George - good to see someone else using the old Nikkor LTMs.
This is Villa Borghese with the 10.5cm f2.5 LTM, and as Steve would say, it's Nikon on Canon of course, where it belongs.
Ben
Ben,
No accentuation in post. Pretty much how it came out of camera.
Get the sun in the frame and this lens will readily produce those six sided blobs in IR.
I had removed the miniscule HN-1 lens hood. Stacked on a filter it caused strong vignetting. That was never an issue on the crop sensor. Lots to learn about getting the best out of this latest camera and my meagre lens collection.

George - loving the 5cm f3.5 shots. No, not fancy, at least from the outside, yet it's actually exclusive. The sign says "members only". I'm wondering what The Stumblin' Pig offers to this select group?

Ben - the members only designation is because of the archaic (or locally translated - backwards ass) North Carolina liquor laws. We do not have “bars” in the sense that most places have. To have liquor sales in a public establishment, it must be tied to a specific percentage of food service sales (restaurants, hotels, etc). So for a town to have a local watering hole, it must be a “private club”. So basically places like the Pig take what would otherwise be considered a cover charge and call it a membership fee.
All liquor/spirit sales in North Carolina are controlled by a state run Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission (ABC board). There are no public/privately owned liquor stores or package stores for the purchase of spirits. You can purchase beer and wine at the grocery store for example, but spirits are sold only at an ABC store. In smaller towns like where I live, you only have the one store or none at all.
But you can buy moonshine in most places if you know who to contact
Ben, not all of us haunt the hallowed halls of Smugmug//Flickr.
