Sorry for the simplistic reply, but WOW! I have always been very interested to know how this lens performs on a modern DSLR. I am impressed by the sharpness and lack of chromatic aberrations. Thanks again for the info.
As an engineer I am used to straight exchanges. This may be the same bird a year ago with the sun behind it, this is a real test of how the lens handles strong highlights with no aberration, this was at f/8. The 800mm 5.6 has three ED elements, most long MF nikkors have two.
Also, please stop. I have the funds but am not ready to accelerate my retirement kit purchases.

Thanks,
I love the AI-p 45 with the FTZ adapter the little pancake sits the perfect distance away
from the body and I don't have to use focus peaking with it
Nice sharp lens
I used to have the GN 45, it was surprisingly good. Glad you’re enjoying the Z5, its a great manual platform.

Thanks! Not looking forward to the ice storm being forecasted later this weekend. I’m up in southern Va tonight and still plenty of snow on the ground.
Take care down east

Hell of a gear combo, awesome shot. Kids were hoping the snow would reach here but it ended up just being cold.
Hey everybody. Long time no shots but I've been liking away at yours. Great work George, as usual. And rafael not only gets the great condition Nikkors, he also can just about shoot anything with them. The fisheye photos are always a treat.
Reagan, since you've had the Z6, how different is the Z5 in use. I think the Z6 is overkill for me but I've been gassing over the Z5 since it was announced. The GAS is a bit worse since I discovered how nice manual-focus on the Z50 is and how well behaved the 58G is on mirrorless. I'm starting to foresee Z5 in my future but it's just GAS. Honestly have no need for another camera. A strong want.
The 55mm f/2.8 AI-s and Df are a great lightweight combination.
^^^^^^^
The Z5 feels just like the 6 except for the info window on top
I do miss that but I am getting used to not having it
I enjoy not having to deal with XQD
2 128g SD XHS-2 cards are alot cheaper than the XQD
I noticed in low light it hunts a little more for AF than the 6 but I was shooting photos of the water at sunrise so that may have been a factor
I will stay with F mount lens and only have 1 Z mount.Cost is a factor there also
Still love my Fuji probably more than the Nikon
My one dilema is software I either have to convert my raw files to work in LR6 or use Capture One
though it only takes less than a minute
I am slowly learning it but LR6 is much more natural to me
Its hard to teach an old dog new tricks
Reagan, a bit surprised that you prefer the X-T3 over the Z5. The Fujis are great lookers and fun little cameras. Great captures of the ocean, I could sure use a visit.
I recently read that four months after taking these photos, a winter storm caused serious damage to the Lonely Cypress. The left limb of the 250 year old tree snapped just below the fork where it was being supported with cables.
Glad I had the opportunity to see it in its former glory and snap a few photos.
Thanks for the feedback Reagan. Like Serge, I'm a bit surprised at the love for the XT-3. I like the Fujifilm cameras too but I find the lens range to cost too close to Nikon FX prices here to justify the jump for one. On the other hand F-mount lenses are becoming widely available at more accessible prices for me now that everyone wants the new kids of the Z block. That and the fact that the FT-Z doesn't get in the way of enjoying use of G lenses on Z mount sees me "GASing" more for a Z FX camera in future.
Serge, I am liking your deployment of various lenses of late. The 28mm sure must be missing the X-E1.
Thank you people for the recent compliments, I feel that photography is slowly returning, still mostly cooped up at home, but I was fortunate enough to get the first dose of the Moderna vaccine and the second dose is soon coming.
It has finally rained in SoCal, this is a desert but we need some rain. Always loved the mornings after storms with the clear air and the wet plants bouncing the early rays. The look is seen by eyes but difficult to capture, methinks due to the extreme dynamic range, rays bouncing and shining through leaves. The cameras do kind of capture it but displays don't show it.
Going through the archives, having a serious cull, and discovering files that got overlooked.
So, I worked on this Berlin fisheye image from back in the day when corporate travel was the norm.
Berlin is an amazing vibrant city. Hopefully my wife and I will get back there in the near future.

I took one of my grandsons to a nearby school to fly my drone this morning. As typical, he got bored of it after about 10 minutes and decided he'd rather play on the playground.

Glad to see you back shooting Rafael! Congrats on round one of the vaccine. Still a complete charlie foxtrot here. Trying to get my mom scheduled and even my sister who is in the healthcare industry (pharmacy) has no idea when she can get scheduled.
