I’m surprised they didn’t see that it would not reach infinity. That is a pretty big thing to miss. I bought one last week that had an oily aperture. I didn’t catch the separation point on the CRC unit exactly. From my experience there it only appears that one engagement point will work. One helical thread off in either direction will not work. One thread early and the CRC bottoms out before infinity. Just one set screw on the front barrel to take out the objective.
I’m also surprised you didn’t already have one of these.
The darkly presented 85mm 1.4 is a good lens, came a little grungy but it cleaned well. Have not photographed it yet, but tested it extensively. The helicoid was dry, it was not stuck just felt gritty due to lack of lubricant, so I removed the lens unit and applied a little grease to it, lubricated the CRC as well. It now focuses smoothly.
This lens is a little dusty but nothing bad.
Performance is pretty nice, nailing the focus is not easy on a DSLR but when you do it is remarkably sharp at 1.4. my 135mm 2.0 may be a bit better, maybe, but the 85mm foal length is useful.
Lens looks nice.
Here are a couple of samples, lighting changed rapidly with the storm.
Happy birthday #245 Ken to you and all your family. May you have centuries of successful and happy life.
Sorry not to share your cake this year. Let's plan for the 246th one.

Raphael and others the 245th Birthday of the United States Marine Corps is a day of celebration for all. The Marine Corps was started in Tun Tavern in Philadelphia. In 1775 the Corps founders were looking for a few good men who wanted to fight for their freedom. No other qualifications were sought or needed. Junior to the Army and senior to the Navy they remain the first to fight.
Semper Fidelis, the motto of the Corps means "Always Faithful" to your God, Country and Corps. Not much more can be asked for and not much more can be promised..
It is impressive how quickly lenses come from Japan via FEDEX, $35 shipping, delivery in three days.
The 85mm 1.4 239XXX, my third bought, second kept, is really like new. Well almost. The lens main elements have not been touched but the lens helicoid has been lubricated and the rear CRC lens ( a single element) had a light grease smudge.
Well, I am expert now in taking this lens housing apart from the lens unit proper, so I took it apart and cleaned the inside of that rear element. Everything else was perfect.
This 239XXX lens has improved coatings over the 188XXX and noticeable better performance. The 188xxx is an excellent lens, but this newer one is one notch higher.
I will keep both 85mm 1.4, one as a user, the other as a new lens. My poor man 58mm 1.2.
I am impressed how little sharpness and contrast improves when you close it down, it is excellent fully open. The deep red bougainvillea is not in critical focus with the rest of the image due to its color with the lens fully open.
