Ohh...I just took away the 28/2.8 ais. D_mn, those issues are not easy to solve. I'm thinking that I have the 20/1.8 af (not a nmfg, I know ) and 25-50/4. But the 28/2.8 is such an awesome little lens. Perhaps I can smuggle it into Annas backpack... Hmmm...
Anna, there is a name that sounds familiar
Anyways, bring the 24, 35 and the 50-135. If I had to pick from my lenses, I would bring the 16, 55 and 80-200 to get a little bit of extra reach, but that's just me and an additional 100 gramms (over the additional kilos I would add to the scales myself)
The reason why I'm wearing a head dress like this is that we got into a bit of weather every time we went out these past few days, so rather then trying to act surprised about even more rain, I decided I'd just be prepared instead
Here are a few more scenic shots showing what the 5cm f2 Nikkor-S can do with rain
Always fun to see one of our own IN FRONT of the camera...
Enjoying the planning for your trip Kristian. I agree, it can be difficult to find the perfect kit. On both recent trips to Europe I brought a lens that essentially was never used... the first trip to the Netherlands it was a 135 f/2.8 AI that was mounted once. The trip to Turkey it was the venerable 85 f/1.4 AI-s, which is a chunk of glass. Fortunately, we have some excellent options that are quite small and light. It sounds as though this will be an amazing journey.
I grabbed a quick snapshot of a friend this morning. I'd taken my camera out to shoot some flowers with raindrops on them but saw her talking with another friend. I took off the extension tube and caught her as she was asking "what are you taking pictures of..." Oops. Got ya.
but honestly I'd take just the 20UD or 28/2NC, sigma 105 macro and 180 (+TC) next time.
Also, there was just my wife and myself, (our kids are grown up) so no distractions ! You never get that time back so spend your time with them, Bali will always be there.
He's off to Bali, hence my comments having been there recently.
Yeah, photographing the event is bloody hard work (the company I work for on the event are contractually obliged to stay until the last finisher and you get 16 hours to complete it)
California poppies are almost like invasive weeds. They can take over the entire yard if I don’t constantly pull them out. Oregonians are fond of making disparaging comments about the hordes of invading Californians, but I’ll refrain from such comments here.
Anyway, after pulling out a bunch of poppies I put some in a vase and decided to watch them open, wilt, and fade. Interspersed between rain showers there have been occasional bursts of sunlight. I’ve enjoyed watching the light hit the blossoms in different ways.
First shot with 300/4.5 AI-s at f/5.6. EXIF data was wrong.
Second shot with 55/2.8 Micro at f/11.
Third shot with 55/2.8 Micro at f/8.
All shots on D700 and intentionally underexposed to bring out the texture of the blossoms.
Some good shots over the past days ... really enjoyed them
Jay I like the cactus shots the more I see the more I like!
Laura a coot tribute to the Wright Brothers that's nicely captured.
Buddy you are emerging as a screen hero ... nicely presented.
Samy your work amazes me. Nicely done pond and apartments.
urtis nice looking gal that looks really happy.
Ken beautiful flower detail especially in B&W
I also need to report that I just got a 28mm F/2 off eBay and at a very good BIN price. Had a chance to look it over and it is pristine ... perfect glass and mint exterior. Yes I know kit building is forever!
Here are the last of what I have processed from the Labrynth Canyon at Lake Powell. I've got to start on the Navajo canyon then on to the state parks of Utah in the coming week.

@Ken Hill@, I guess the one with its original box for $225 BIN right?
No not that one and a few $$$ more with shipping included. The serial number is 575875 which makes it the 875th Ai-S lens. Rainy here so just playing with the CRC indoors and very pleased. The DOF is very thin at minimum focus distance. Flare seems not to be a problem either.
KB... AMAZING shots of those poppies. Yes, they are EVERYWHERE, growing wild along the trail and in practically every sidewalk crack. But I find them lovely to behold... closing as the sun goes down, then opening again in the morning. Love how you present them.
KH... am enjoying your travel photos. Keep them coming. And congratulations on your recent purchase. A clean AI-s version of the 28 f/2 AI-s is not a cheap proposition. I think I paid $325 for the mint condition lens I bought that came with the original box. The serial number is 598302 which was in the middle of the run that ended in 2005. That was the lens I took to Turkey. It saved my bacon in low light. Well done.
Enjoying your film work Samy... especially like the rendering with the Nikon S. I watched Band of Brothers for a second time last week and seeing headstones in a cemetery suits my mood at the moment. Very nicely processed as well.
