I'm liking it the way it is, too, although maybe a candle in the window, if you had access to the interior...

Constructive Criticism, Please

I am just learning night time/astro photography and this is the second image I have posted on FM (the other being on the Sony Loxia site). I have watched quite a few videos (and an e-book I have only half read), and when it comes to light painting many people use what I think is a bit of a heavy hand. Granted, for some subjects that OK. For this one, I wanted a more muted approach. I have found that it's hard to have a light, even handed touch when rushing to do these in a single exposure

Thanks Ben, glad to know I wasn't the only one with vision crazy syndrome (bet that isn't in the DSM though)

As for mirrorless, you're right about size - not just the bodies but the lenses. The Canon R lenses are bigger, way bigger, than their L equivalents (and way more expensive). That's the reason I bought the Z7. I knew I didn't want to lug around those huge canon lenses. I can put my canon 135mm f2 on the Z7 and everything works, aperture and AF. Yes, it's not a small kit, but it's still smaller

Just back from a short outing to one of our state's better preserved ghost towns - Garnet.
This was an odd trip in that from about 5:30 pm through about 10 am the next day, I had the town all to myself - not a soul around (at least living, corporeal that is!).
What a joy to be alone and able to take as much time as you want "futzing" with cameras, tripods, etc.
I took some evening, night time / crescent moon, and morning photos.
This was an early morning image from the standard overlook as you hike into town.

PS - These western US ghost towns are generally only about 150 years old (this one was started in the mid-1890s). I am guessing that our European friends might not think that something about 150 years old is actually "old"

Love the perspective with this. Everything seems to fit well.

I also love your second shot, very nice post work.

How do you like shooting that 24/2.8 N.C? I've been looking at that, or a 28/2 Nikkor-N to add to my Df Kit.

About a year ago, I did some comparisons of the 24s and 28s f2 and f2.8s thanks to a loan of lenses from Jack (MontanaKid). I had the 24 f2, the rest were Jack's. These were all AI or AIS lenses. I posted the results, but have since removed them from Flickr - so those will be dead links.

My application is for Landscape, so I was looking in the f5.6 - f11 range. I don't remember exactly (and would have to dig those up again), but I don't think there was much difference on the Df. Since then I got the 24 f2.8 NC and the 28 f2 NC (AI'd). I like the focus rings on the pre-AI lenses.

One thing I did notice (and post), all of these have pretty bad coma/astigmatism when used for astrophotography

Cheers

Doug

Playgrounds have reopened for the kids but the city says it wants to check each playgrounds equipment. I think the kids have checked it over all ready as the warning tape has been removed. I think it has been kid approved.

Reagan glad you are getting out and about and enjoying the 750. I’m a bit puzzled about your sunset comment since you live on the east coast! Are you at the Gulf??

Also enjoyed Curtis’s comment about our “Golden Retirement.” Don’t know about you but I enjoy every dollar of my $257 a month Social Security check I get because of my government retirement’s “Windfall Penalty.”

Today was the day we had scheduled to be in Staunton. That’s been put off for a month.

Thanks for the details there. My application is a little different as I shoot mostly wide open and generally trying to coax the character out of these old lenses. I like the metal focus rings too (especially the longer focus throw), but also prefer the older, single coated lenses as they render a little more softly, but definitely don't perform well into bright light.

Don't let Ken con you Reagan... his Social Security is limited because those in Federal employment don't receive it... that must have come from his moonlighting. But that Civil Service Retirement System he enjoys is much like the California Public Employees Retirement System. CSRS was discontinued in 1987 because someone decided it was too generous but old duffers like Ken were certainly covered. CPERS is still remarkably generous but only for employees who stick around long enough. Had I continued to work another ten years I'd be on easy street... probably quite near where Ken lives...

I'm amazed your employer didn't offer a retirement plan. You'd better keep your wife working...

And congratulations on your D750. I saw a couple pass through the Buy and Sell board but didn't note your presence on any of the threads. Hope you enjoy it this time around. We're all rooting for you...

Finally my favourite flower has appeared in my yard.

M10M + Nikkor 105UV

Well maybe not favourite but for ultraviolet photography it is was my first opportunity to test to see if the Leica M10M would follow the M246 with some UV capabilities.
