Hi Joseph - I have both the AI-s version and the N.C. without a conversion kit. In my experience the AI-s performs better wide open. I find myself stopping down a bit with the N.C. When traveling in Turkey I carried the AI-s lens and shot wide open for a couple of hours while touring the Basilica Cistern. I've posted shots from that visit. Given the conditions in which I was shooting I was very happy with both the D700 and the 28 f/2 AI-s. If I were anticipating similar conditions I would take the newer lens, not the older version. I agree the 28 f/2.8 AI-s is a real trooper. You can't go wrong with that lens.

That first one deserves a place on the wall!
Thank you Chris and Leighton.
Not sure about the wall thing, but I did like the "seriously passioned photographer on a mission" look Kristina had about her while taking pictures in our back yard yesterday
Hey folks, has anyone ever compared the 20mm f/3.5 and 20mm f/4 Ai-S lenses? Are they that much different from each other at f/5.6? I'd be very grateful for any info, I'm planning on getting one to stick to my film FM camera. Thank you!
Early Nikkor-S 5.8cm/f:1.4 with silver stepped-noise, LMIJ, Pat. Pend, 6 aperture blades and scale in feet only.
It was long gone years ago but I still keep some photos of it Enjoy.

It was re-paint in Bluish Grey by me in 2015. Enjoy

The color's really nice! How'd you do it? Dismantle and mask out all the knobs and such?
On the subject of repainting, I've just picked up another D800, I'm getting nearly as bad as "You Know Who" !
same lack of paint in the same areas as my last one
Sniped it this morning, D600 is going.
Just couldn't get on with the D600 - no 1 touch 100% zoom, multi-direction pad ugh, no exposure preview in Live View, no dedicated top buttons - ISO, WB, QUAL, too small. Zoom + and minus on the back the wrong way round !

Andy the D800 has used up half of its 9 lives or about the same life left in it in a new D610. So you did very well.
Ken glad to stir a 50 year old memory.
Rafael there is a steam tractor gathering south of here in Fort Meade, the largest in the world. Hope to go some day but you need to rent a golf cart to see it all in two days.
Chris was just through Denver. I see you caught it on a clear day.
Today we are in Northern Arizona at Lake Powel and what a great place. The first day at Jay's suggestion we went to Wahweap Marina to see about a tour. They had only the large, 120 foot boats until May 31.... WEEKS AWAY! We wanted to see the box canyons.
We left the marina disappointed and took these shots on the way back to the hotel. Notice the white walls on the cliffs surrounding the dam. By several estimates the water level was 85-90 feet below normal and near the all time low.
The shot with the small boats on the right gives some perspective!
