I am in FL right now. Staying at my brother-in-law's place. We always stay here but this time, we are here all by ourselves. I haven't take inside shots of this place before. Here are some with the 20mm f4.

Peter, FYI Mammoth Mountain annouced they will stay open through August. Can't wait for your pics.
My son is asking if we can go and spend a day skiing. Maybe at the end of it I am more worried about Tioga pass not being open by July 4, because even when it opens, it usually takes a while before they open campgrounds or even the ranger station up there at Tuolumne Meadows. Need to work on a plan B in case we cannot start near the place where we'd like to leave our vehicle for the trip.
From 2011 pictures, the last rather wet year, I expect to spend miles and likes on snow. The whole Muir Pass region will be white, lakes frozen into late July or even August, but lower down it'll be flowers, skeeters, and swollen rivers that need to be crossed

Hi Glen! I'm jealous..B.C is absolutely beautiful! One of the most memorable trip I've taken was the ferry ride from Tsawwassen to Victoria. The ferry passed through several islands and I remember seeing bald eagles from the ferry. Alas, my longest lens was a 105mm so they were all pixelated I'm looking forward to your wildlife photos.
BC is, indeed, a gorgeous place, and I feel very fortunate to have the chance to live here. I, too, have seen a few bald eagles flying overhead since we arrived, and I am hoping to start capturing some of them in photos, along with other birds, deer, smaller mammals, and maybe even some humpback, grey, or killer whales, seals, etc. I don't yet foresee myself heading out to photograph bears or cougars, but who knows?
In the meantime, here's another set of images from the Canadian prairie, this time highlighting the vast flatness of the midwestern landscape.

Wow how big is that place? I've never seen dual fans from the same socket before.

Brian, those trail photos look SO familiar, but then I guess much of California looks like this. I view the photos and wonder whether I've been on that trail... but the vast majority of my hiking is in Marin County north of San Francisco and I doubt you're a neighbor... but we can be friends.
Yes, very relaxing as these photos remind me of what it is like to be ON the trail. Thanks.
Hi Curtis, thanks for the kind words. It's exactly the relaxing, calming quietness I wanted to capture and convey. In the big scheme, north bay and south bay are so close, we're really neighbors.
Also thanks again for relaxing the rule to allow mirrorless cameras. I learned a lot from this thread, and I will keep contributing.

We camped in Yosemite valley the last week of June/first of July in '11. We left on July 3rd. I tried to convince my wife for a one night stay in Mammoth on the way home.
Her: "Why would we do that after a week in Yosemite?"
Me: "Well, I thought I could bring my skis and boots and hit the slopes on the 4th. I have a pass so I won't cost anything. :-)."
That wen't over like a turd in a punch bowl. We were back home on the 3rd. Tioga had just opened up the week before. The National Parks Services used Mammonth's snowcats (Piston Bullies) to open the road.
Mammoth website is listing 105" at main lodge and 255" on top (11,053') I"m hoping to get one more weekend before the end of June
Not really. It was built around 2005. I think they just like the style and went for it. I think it's not as cozy as it looks. I would like a smaller, more cozy look if I had a house. I don't have one yet. The house I am living in now is my other brother-in-law's who is single but also has a gigantic place and we figured why not, can't just leave him there by himself )

Nice. I must have missed that out somehow. Looks like there might some history to the house?
friends., I am downsizing couple of my lenses to free up funds for buying a monitor. My 50mm f1.4 S C and 50mm f1.8 AI long nose are available for sale. Wanted to give a shout here before going to the forum.
I will have to get back on their condition but please PM me.
Chuong that is a very big house. Where are you in Florida?
Paul your I first saw your shot from Annecy on my iPhone and thought the chair was "not" Darth Vader but the other one who dresses in white. I got a chuckle
More Sedona, this time on a tour of the canyon in a Jeep. Very interesting in that the guy who started the tours was a realtor who took people out in a Jeep to show property. Eventually his Jeep tours became more popular (and profitable) than selling land. Capitalism at its best!

Thing is, Mammoth is a strange place where snow piles up at levels unheard of in the rest of the southern Sierra due to a funnel effect to the west just south of the Ritter Range. The average water content right now is below 2011 levels already, so my expectation is that we won't have 10 miles of snow over Muir Pass in mid July - maybe just 5 miles
here's great tool to compare snow years - just check the 2010-2011 box and hit draw to compare with the current and other notable years. It is going to be warm in the coming weeks and come July, the conditions will be very different - just look at how that current year depth has been dropping off since April:
Hard to follow Ronny (beautiful image Ronny) but somebody has to do it. Just playing with the 55/2.8 a little. It was the first picking of garlic today.
