I honestly don't think they would make a non LCD camera especially if it has the same sensor and thickness as the m. It would be the opposite direction to their CMOS and live view marketing strategy. I also recall an lfi editor stating leica wouldn't waste resources on a non LCD camera. I personally like the idea but it needs to have some significant advantage over the current m for me to buy one.

It would present some issues with customizing how your camera works, but I guess that would be part of the point, no customizing, just basic controls. However if it's MORE expensive than the m240 I'd rather just tape up the back of a camera if I feel like removing the screen. Not to say its all about price but I would otherwise see no real advantage to doing this.

You would be surprised how Leica masters the art of removing features and components from the camera, and selling it to you for more money

I voted yes!

it'd be a lot more attractive if they thinned out the camera to near m6 size after removing the lcd.

Yeah, if they made it smaller / thinner / lighter / and a little less expensive - it would have some appeal to quite a few people. I think. But only removing the LCD and making it more expensive... no thank you.

I think it's just easier to use the already existing M240 body instead of producing a new one. Also there is a limit to how thin the body may be. M6 thin is not realistic because the sensor and board are quite thick.

I don't use the LCD a lot but certainly would miss it in some situations... Edward - I may just try those in B&W. The light was harsh and I mistakenly had it set to ISO 2500 which messed up the colors and overall look a bit.

the LCD they use on the m240 is also quite thick so they could certainly make it noticeably thinner. I agree though that making a new body is probably more money than they would want to spend on this.

I think I would buy it. But would prefer a M9/ MM or even better a MP body instead of a M240 body.

A couple more. A lazy, hot afternoon in Budapest..... I love these type of pics where you don't notice how much is going on in the image until you get home and have a closer look.

Wonderful shots all. Catch up my my comments.

zhangyue - Love the monochromatic look on the wooden horse in Stanford Museum p1015. Nicer sunstars and the glimpse of the youngster. p1015 The arches from two different viewpoints very nice. p 1016 The 1st shot gives me a sense I am right in the scene standing before the tree. I can perceive the depth a feeling of 3Dishness for me. More arches I like how you tilted the camera for the angled shot catching the five lights. I enjoy seeing a different perspective. The beetle I captured was while walking back from the park what caught my eye was it was green in colour but a green I had not seen on cars before. Wasn't dark, light, or lime it was a pale to mid tone green. The 1st shot of the two kids is a nice capture where they are into their own little world of imagination. Nice long exposure with the 810.

Adam - Ironically one of the courses I could take as a required course 3 out of 4 needed is a black and white darkroom 12 week course. Most of their courses are now digital in nature but they do not offer a black and white digital yet most other courses require a digital camera. I might opt for that course which means shooting film but the only cameras I have for film is a Canon F1 or EOS 1V.

Edward - nice shot in the lounge p1015. Very pleasant earth colors and bokeh. The pillows shot has a nice balanced composition. I like the curvedness of the windows in the background I assume shot in an airport terminal. Interesting afternoon shot. Looks like a well shaded area as the lights in the background makes it appear to be evening.

Bruno - the 2nd shot I like how you captured the deep in thought look. Looks good in B&W.

Uhoh7 - p1015 I like the sunstar at sunset, nice golden colour of the rocks in the foreground.

Joan - The poor doggie, locked behind the bars. Just look at the face, such innocence, not guilty should be free.

Joakim - Is it 5AM or PM for the selfie. Interesting shot.

Allen - 2nd shot with the lady just at the edge of the frame interesting in that it goes well with all the lines in the image. The outfit also has lines. great capture.

Ron - P1016 the 1st shot with the two sculpted body builders in the background is a nice contrast to the youngin in the foreground ready to sculpt a sand castle. Great beach series. The colours are fantastic. 2nd beach set - The F4 shot seeing the sand drip from his hands awesome. Interesting story can be said of the little girl and her Dad(assuming). I can hear the conversation It's okay it is just water it won't hurt you. Yes I too am drawn to old buildings that was the biggest selling point to get the Monochrom. Although I could convert having the monochrome forces one to see the scene in black and white since colour is not an option. Many times last year I drove by old abandoned buildings and thought B&W would be awesome. Interesting playground colour contrast did you tell the kids that they must dress in blue and/or yellows to contrast with the playground equipment? Nice stair series, The B&W caught my attention as the young ins in the foreground are preoccupied looking at something and those in the background are more interested in exploring the stairs. Excellent shows in the one after the B&W. The texture and details on the two sand shots are outstanding. They really caught my eyes.

Pandorf - The Piper Apache Float Plane terrific reds nice contrasting colours that balances out well.

Gary The last two shots with your SEM and Cron are impressive. The SEM stop showing it capabilities (I am tempted for one) nice colour balance of reds and golds and composition. The 35 shot has so many interesting patterns and shapes from the tear drops to the curves and lines terrific capture. The first shot with the statues interesting contrast it is a nice blend of living and statue I can picture both being living or statue.

Flash - Awesome sunrise/moonset love the coloration on the snow.

I would miss the LCD. I use it often when shooting wide open. Although the Monochrom LCD is not the greatest for telling if the focus is close, I can usually tell if it is reasonable.
A new Leica M-P interesting but the the other headline caught my attention a price increase for the M-240 before Photokina when rumours are abound about rumoured new gear and people fence sitting waiting to see what might be announced. Leica hits the fence sitters with a quandary to save the 300 increase and not buy something new or wait and pay 300 extra if nothing is announced. Though I wouldn't expect an M240 to be announced sure an interesting way to draw any fence sitters away from another brand and style of camera. Not too many people would buy an M240 and DSLR (Canon 1DX replacement) or Medium format (Thinking S2 replacement).

I like it but since I already have the M I don't see any point in upgrading. By the way does anyone else find the large flat head screw irritating? If they added 2GB of buffer does this also mean its going to be glitch free. I thought the current M has tendency to glitch even before the buffer is filled.

Thank you very much, burningheart, for the nice detailed comments. Greatly appreciated.

My take on the M-P is that apart from the frame selector, the upgrades are not interesting. The sapphire crystal is meaningless because what scratches most are the coatings not the glass itself. The double memory may be interesting to more prolific shooters, maybe Ron, but the way I shoot doesn't require the extra memory.

That screw head was the first thing I noticed... Aside from that, the camera looks nice but the features are not enough to sway me.

Nice and moody, Edward!
Gary, I like the first one and agree with you. Sometimes there is just something instinctual when shooting and only later when you have a chance to more closely examine images, realize the complexity and interaction within the frame. It's what I like about the two playground images I posted.

Thanks very much for the kind words! The playground just happened that way. I actually didn't even think about the colour relationships until you mentioned it... and of course you're right. It's quite the coincidence.

Where have you seen notice of a price increase? I could see this being the case for Canadian dealers relative to the USD. Back in January when I was shopping around for an M240 many of the Canadian dealers I contacted indicated they were on the verge of increasing prices due to exchange rate fluctuations.

EDIT: disregard. I stumbled across the notice on the Red Dot Forum...

I don't think the buffer has any influence on the lockups. It's just a repository for data to queue, waiting for the processor. Had they announced an upgraded processor, then things would likely be different because it probably also would have meant some software tweaks. But who knows? This M-P could also be the beneficiary of some silent upgrades. Will be interesting to see if future firmware updates are M and M-P specific.

---------------------------------------------

My take is it's a one year stopgap measure by Leica until the next major M revision. Therefore, nothing 'big' in M camera announcements for Photokina. Like the M9P, this is a chance to milk the existing camera platform. Unlike the M9P, however, this mid-cycle revision is more substantial on the hardware side. I wonder if it's a realization by Leica that a cosmetic refresh this time would likely have less traction, considering the relatively easy availability of M bodies, as well as lots of demo units up for grabs?

Yes, I'm very interested in, and definitely would benefit from the 2GB buffer. The other changes I could easily do without (as is already the case). Even with the buffer upgrade, it's not enough for me to want to buy it outright. Instead I feel a slight sense of disappointment that this could have been in the camera in the first place (2GB buffer). If there is an upgrade program, I might consider it... but this time, the differences between the 'P' and 'non-P' aren't just cosmetic... There is the matter of the frame line selector returning (which I find interesting, if a bit odd) and the buffer increase. It might mean a fair amount of disassembly and reconstruction for such an upgrade and Leica certainly wouldn't let one pick and choose which features to upgrade...

Thanks Gordon!

I do everything presented here in Lightroom. No additional Photoshop. My feeling is it's a matter of finding a suitable white balance and also tweaking the red, orange and yellow hue and saturation sliders. Another consideration is contrast and clarity. Increasing these will generally degrade skin tone appearance. If a scene will benefit from stronger use of clarity, but skin tones will suffer, I'll spot fix the skin areas with some negative clarity along with contrast and exposure adjustments, if necessary. This is a lesson learned photographing my GF, who is very critical of her appearance and wants images to faithfully represent her delicate skin tones.

I've exhausted the beach... here are some test shots with the 90AA, just trying to get a feel for how it renders wide open...

New Leica M-P

I briefly read through the new manual but couldn't get a feel for differences but from you educated Liecafilias what are the main differences between an M and an M-P?

Ron the latest beach shot close-up and personal with the grass is spectacular with the colours. Nice blur and bokeh, I tried the close focusing with the MM but just doesn't have the same impact to me with plants and vegetation in black and white. I will have to continue to experiment.
