p.441 #1 · Leica M/X/T/S/Q/CL/SL Picture Thread

I just came back from another long stay in India. This time not only with the usual Nikon D700 and Leica-R lenses, but also with the Leica-x1.

Here are a few photos I took with the little one I just converted:

1) Blue eyes-2

2)Blue eyes-1

3) One of the many Sadhus in Varanasi

4) Warming fire

5)Barbarossa

6) Mosque

7) Foodstall

8) A sweets-seller in Varanasi

9) Bliss

Enjoy
Thomas

Wow Thomas!

1,5 and 8 really work for me. Very 3D and crisp with perfect DoF around the subject and nice OOF areas. Beautiful

Great shots all! This thread seem to picked up some steam lately, huh?

Charles, very nice pp on those 35Lux FLE shots. The biker returns? Love that plant shot with the 90Cron. Is that the AA?
Zhangyue, very nice sets from the past few pages, I can't keep up with your lens collection!
Ajay, nice set with the 50Lux.
Ash, excellent vacation shots! Lucky you!
Kelly, nice train shot and I like the soccer shot as well!
Joakim, the second shot with the 24 SE is superb!
Edwin, nice set from the concert and nice portrait of you! Now I can tag a face to your excellent pics!
Daniel, super sharp shots with the 50Lux!
Ryan, are these new shots or you're back with the M9? Very nice set!
RyanF congrats on your M9.
Thomas, excellent shots with the X1! Love the colors.

Was in Houston for a meeting last week, and finished off the trip with some ribs and BBQ! I realized Bud Light and slow shutter speed doesn't mix well

Lots of great images - Joe (shaky on Bud Light - how much did you drink?? ), Thomas, Michael, Edwin, Ash, Daniel, Charles, Kelly, Boris.... sorry if I missed anyone.

Daniel - what is your opinion of the SEM21 vs the ZM18?

Just wanted to chime in on the lens options. What worked well for me was starting off with Zeiss and Voigtlander lenses, getting comfortable with the M system and acquiring a feel for the focal lengths I used most, etc... Obviously there are some lenses you can only get from Leica, such as 21 or 24mm at f/1.4, and if you need that, then the choice is pretty clear.

So what I like is 21/28/50/90 spacing. I'll crop the 21 to fill the gap below 28, and all the way up through the range. That said, I still like 35mm, especially that I can consistently hand hold it at least one stop, if not two, slower than the 50...

On another note, I was out for a photo walk this evening and heard a metallic tinkle at my feet, looked down and saw that the hood had fallen off the 50 Lux... along with a couple other parts (I guess I was lucky it didn't happen on grass or mud). Closer inspection revealed that all these parts are held in place by a single, tiny set screw. I guess repeatedly pulling the hood out eventually loosened the screw.

Doesn't seem like a particularly wise design decision by Leica... I guess for the 50 Lux ASPH users out there, keep an eye on this!

6 of one, 1/2 dozen of the other. They're both sharper than almost anyone would ever need straight from wide open. On paper the 21 is sharper.

Nicer out of focus areas from the 21, maybe slightly more of a '3D' look from the 18? I haven't done a scientific comparison yet. What I do know is that the 21 is much smaller.

Bad to see the hood fall off your lux! I'm going to look carefully at mine.

Zhangyue, nice shots with the 90 Elmarit. Favourite is #3

Thomas, awesome set! Who needs any more lenses, with all the GAS chatter Stunning portraits! The feel and mood is so well captured in these shots

Joe, thank you Yes I used the 90 Cron AA, as the pre version has been sold to finance the 24 Lux! Very nice set of shots! Love the gentler rendering with the 35 Lux Asph V1. I really like the shadow and lighting in #1

Ron, hope there is a quick fix here Yes I need to check mine too.

Joe - I think you've captured the Cook-off much better than I did - I love the first two. Could you tell me more about the exposure?

Ron - thanks for the heads up.

Anyone know if we're ever going to get that Leica forum?

Thanks Charles - luckily the hood was retracted when the pieces fell off and the set screw wasn't lost. It just needed to be put back together and screwed down. I think a bit of Loctite is in order.

Ron, phew! Yes definitely some Loctite
Ash, I am with you on this! Be great to have a forum that would allow separate threads to flow, without losing them in a day!! I suppose we could PM Fred, and see what his response is. I am really like the GetDPI style, as it allows many parallel threads to flow and has the gallery section too

Thanks Ron, Charles, Ash

Ron, sorry to see the problem with your lens. Just FYI, most if not all of the Leica lenses have screws (normally at least 3 screws) in front to hold the hood or front ring and I have had problems with my 28Cron loosening and have also heard problems from others. Pulling or removing hood or continual screwing (pun intended) of UV filters may loosen the front ring and/or hood. Especially with external hoods, its wise to be gentle.

Ash, ISO1250. #1 1/60s f/2.8/ #2 1/60s f/1.4 #3 1/45s f/2. On hindside, I should have used ISO1600 with a higher shutter speed taking into consideration the Bud Light

Ron, basically our company sponsored a "cookoff team" for the competition (its known as the World BBQ Championship ), and its all you can eat and drink plus more

Here's 2 more with the 35Lux ASPH v1. #1 ISO800 1/30 f/2 #2 Flare test ISO 1250 1/25 f/1.4

Thanks Charles!

I hope the next iteration of the digital M has at least 2 stops of high ISO improvements. Bud Light aside, for the kind of shooting I do, I always appreciate better ISO performance to allow me to shoot with more depth of field.
