Thanks Luka, Ron

Luka, excellent compositions on the first set eventhough lighting wasn't ideal. #3 & 5 are my favorites. #1, 3 & 4 are my favorites from the 2nd set, particularly #1, that is a superb "street" shot, love it!
Najibs, I like the motion blur on this shot. Nice feel to it!
Charles, the 2nd shot of the portrait is excellent.

Beautiful weather in Boston today. Mid 70F. Unusual for Oct. 35Lux ASPH

Charles, that 50lux really makes a good portrait when handled by you

Luka, another nice set, i like 1,3,5 and 1 looks metallic to me

joe, nice framing on your shot.

Joe and Edwin, thanks, much appreciated
Joe, great street shot! I am loving the colour PP'ing to your shots. Warmer and really nice feel to your recent shots
Edwin, nice shots with the CV 35/1.2! I really like the shots with the RD-1/CV 50/1.1. The colours and and PP'ing seem to have a different balance.

We are almost on track with the autumn colors, any day now!

Went for a stroll today to check out some angles for when the colors start to pop. The sky was pretty bland but the sun broke out every once in a while.

The first frost can look something like this.

Both with the M9, ZM18/4, handheld at ISO320 and around f8.

Thanks Charles. The RD-1 shots were processed in LR3 with just the clarity bumped to +30 and sharpening thru mogrify during export to jpg file and thats about it. I actually prefer its output compared to the M9 now.

Picture-event, nice shots with the 50 Lux
Henrik, very nice shots. I do like the ZM 18 and the way it draw colour.
Najibs, cool family shots.
Edwin, I do prefer the output from the M9, but it is just the Adobe standard RAW converter for the M9 is lacking still IMO. Again modifying the ACR profile for the M9, does offer huge improvements. I have run almost identical RAW PP'ing routines via C1 Pro and ACR, I end with completely different colour profiles. For evening and very low light shots, I prefer ACR with the modified profile, as noise reduction is great within CS5. But everything else I use C1 Pro now.

Charles K, thanks. The ZM18 grows on me.

Denoir: so let me get this right: your Croatia shots were ruined by restoration?
That's almost funny.

Charles - excellent pulls out of the archives . The separation the 75 Lux gets is excellent!

Najibs - very nice shots and yes, I agree, the 35 Skopar does render very nicely. Very similar in my opinion to the 35 Summarit. The first shot of your daughter is excellent

Charles, great shots, particularly the B&W with the 75 Lux. The first one (your fiancé with the two dogs) is brilliant. It looks almost like an oil painting

Here's something slightly different - I got my X1 back from Leica (the battery hatch fell off) so I took a couple of shots with it.

Wonderful portraits Charles - of course a lovely fiance helps it make it easy.
Edwin, Nice shots at the hotel.
Najibs, nice shots of your daughter.
Luka, excellent work. Wonderful compositions with the birds and the boats.

Too busy to take any pictures. On an unrelated side note, I should be receiving my Lux 24 FLE sometime by this weekend

Thanks Ajay & Charles. I can only restate my opinion about that cursed X1 camera. It is awful to use - like a 5 year old low end P&S and yet... there is definitely something about the output that I really find appealing.

One wouldn't know it from your results with the X1, Luka. Very nice sets, I'm particularly drawn to the one with the birds.

najibs - yes, that CV35 f/2.5 looks really sweet. I think the only thing that turned me off from it was it seemed a bit soft towards the edges in M9 samples I found online, even stopped down a bit. But on the M8, that obviously is less of an issue.

Charles - great portraits and love the wedding one as well. You certainly make the 75 Lux sing. I happened to see one online for about $4K (might have been 4,500 - don't remember) and was tempted I have no idea if that's a reasonable price... But in hindsight I still think the 50 Lux would suit my needs better.

dgenx24 - great set from the Voigtlander! I have yet to see much of that kind of flaring, but also haven't really used it a huge amount in bright conditions, though have managed to reproduce the flare seen in the last image in your first set above.

picture-event - welcome to the tread and lovely 50 Lux images!

Edwin - very much like the street set!

Henrik - looks very detailed. Good luck with the GXR vs. NEX-5N comparison. I'm very interested in your findings.

I did another photo walk with the university photo club. We kind of ran out of light, and I wasn't as productive as the last outing, but that's how these things go..

First off, one from my latest acquisition - the CV12 LTM. Picked it up from Photo Village when I was in NYC on the weekend. Interesting place. Not very big, but cool nonetheless. It certainly seems to be a happier combination on the M9 than the CV15 in terms of vignetting and color shift. I don't see myself using this lens a huge amount and it's more or less intended to be my ultra-wide on a GXR or NEX if/when I get one. I have it set manually for the 21 non-ASPH, which seems to work fine. There is still a slight red/magenta shift along the left edge, but can be quickly cleaned up in LR.

It's an interesting lens and forces you to work extremely close to your subject if you don't want them to look really far away. For people photos this is a bit of a challenge sometimes, though it was also fun in crowded NYC to wait until someone was 2-3 feet away...

Here's a scene I tried with both the 90 Summarit and the CV35 f/1.2 II

Both were wide open. There's certainly a perspective difference, as would be expected. The camera to subject distance in the 35mm image is still too far in this case to really offer much background blur. Here are a few from the 35 wide open at closer distances:

(cropped a bit)

(also cropped a bit)

The B&W is pretty much the same as the color version, just desaturated all the way in LR, though I did darken the shadow area on his far cheek a bit for better separation.

Luka - great shots with the X1! My favorites are #2 & #3. Although its a P&S it still has a great rendering to it

Ron - I am very interested in the CV 12. I have been thinking about picking one of these up as well, mainly for the NEX. The Sony 16 is horrendous. I really like the portraits with the 35 Nokton....I don't think I've ever used a lens for portraits that I enjoy more. And I'm saying that while I'm staring at some portraits in my office that I absolutely love that were taken with the 35 Lux ASPH. The B/W rendering is fantastic. I too have not seen flare like was demonstrated last page with the 35 Nokton. I even shot straight into the sun wide open and had far better results.

Thanks Ryan. I have read that the Sony 16mm works better on the latest NEX cameras like the C3 and 5N because those seem to have sensors better optimized for wide angle lenses. I opted for the LTM version because it seems to be much, much smaller without the huge built-in hood of the M mount version. Indeed, it is a tiny lens. It also focuses down to 30 cm, which would be useful on a NEX or GXR. I bought a used one that might have a couple minor problems, and may exchange it for a new one, but other than the minor problems, it looks to be promising based on the little I've used it so far. I think its biggest drawback is it's only f/5.6 and will therefore be of somewhat limited usefulness in low light situations.

I'm pretty happy with the 35 f/1.2II so far. Still learning it. I don't use it all the time, opting for the ZM35C in brighter conditions and to save space/weight when necessary.

Some more with the 90 Summarit:

I think these were all at or close to wide open.

I find this lens really easy to PP, not that the ZM and CV aren't... just that they're all a bit different. Based on my limited M series experience so far, I'd say degree of PP from least to most is 90 Summarit, then ZM (they're both pretty close though but the ZM are higher contrast), then CV which I generally find, based on the four I have now, need a bit more help to get to the way I like it. Might not be the case for others' PP tastes.

I just ordered a ebay hood for 8 bux. Will see how that goes.
