No, she was in Balboa Park, San Diego. No event involved as far as I could tell. Just saw her on the steps while I was shooting engagement pictures for a friend.

I needed something long and narrow for a particular placement, so I thought I would give these building a try. Sometimes your out just doing your stuff and you see a subject like this coming down the small Strada. You scramble and get a shot off before he gets by. Great luck!
Of course you know you have to find a way to engage and speak with him, so you just do it. Turns out that he is a fun and interesting guy. A artistic furniture maker by trade. He agrees to pose for a quick portrait. You realize that he has enough character that the brightly colored clothes are actually a distraction, so switch to black and white. Then you see how good the natural light is. Great luck again. I have a new friend in Parma...
Both with the M11 and 35mm Summilux because that's what I had with me.
This fragile and very slow moving senior citizen took forever to walk by me. This made photographing him easy. The whole time I was photographing him he never changed his pace or expression. But he also never took his eyes off me. Once I put down my camera he gave me a small smile and nodded his head ever so slightly. I smiled and nodded back. No words were exchanges. Yet, I couldn't help but respect and like him a great deal.
This is just the other side of the narrow street where I photographed the colorful artist. Not a single step was taken, I just turned and took this shot. The colors could not have worked together better if I had chosen them for the image. Like I said previously, great light, lucky spot.
