Bruce, I was there Saturday afternoon. It was just a quick trip to pick up something at the Leica store and shoot with the SEM 21 for a few hours. It was interesting chatting with Joseph while he finished painting that mural. Given the so-so light from the fog I wished I had taken my M10M instead.

I live in Santa Cruz but spend the night in SF about every 6 weeks to photograph Chinatown and over-eat a bit I stay at the Triton Hotel right at the Chinatown Gate. Like you, I was at the Leica Store simplifying my kit. I had two bodies and traded one of them and a Voigtlander lens to get one "good" lens. I was super tempted by a lot of optics that they had (but not listed on the website... especially the re-release of the steal-rim 35mm f1.4) but settled on the Summicron 35 ASPH vii (can't afford the apo).
I think there are a few of us on FM that visit the area from time to time... we should do a photo walk / meet up one of these days.

cheers,
bruce

Your images inspired me to have another look for M240/MP240 again, and you did a fantastic job cooking the M9 recipe! It has that nostalgic look to the colors.

I really like this shot... very cool use of lines.
I think I'm the odd one, as I've had an M10 twice and sold them both times. I've had an M240 for a while and unlike most others, I prefer the added bulk. I know the sensor is way less forgiving than the M10 and the viewfinder is not as larger or bright, but I like how the 240 feels in my hands.... It's my only Leica right now, and that's fine with me.

I'm with ya ... I don't have my M240-P any longer (M10-R), but I do have the M246, mono version. Everyone is all the rage about the smaller size of the M10 / M11, but when I pick up my M246, it just has a different feel to it. I'm good with my M10-R, but the M246 has a different vibe to it, that I enjoy as well.

For those folks who are craving IBIS, I've said several times that I thought Leica could make that happen in an M240 body, and I'd find that just fine. The larger body, also affords the larger battery (think larger AA sized cells vs. smaller AAA sized cells). Not to get into the whole IBIS vs. legacy heritage thing ... just saying the real estate is (likely) there to work with.

If you're the "odd one" ... I'm the "odd two", too.

Yesterday I stepped way outside my core skill set. On of my best friends got engaged and asked me to do his engagement pictures. I explained to him that I had never done this before and even though I enjoy photography, and sometimes produce nice images that this was a specialty thing and that he would be better off with a pro who know his kind of work. He insisted that they would much rather have a meaningful set of images with flaws shot by me than perfect results from a pro.

So, we went to Balboa park and did our best. I shot with my Leica SL3, my set of APO-SL primes, and a Godox AD200 with shoot through umbrella and X3 Nano transmitter for lighting. I used my housekeeper's 13 year old Son for a voice activated light stand.I have around 250 frames to go through. Here are my first pass edits from the shoot. The Leica equipment was a joy to shoot in this use case and produced exceptional image quality. Would be better if I knew how to pose couples. Very little editing in these.

Thanks, means a lot coming from you. Yes I can get focus and good exposure. But, I think mI played it too safe with backgrounds and poses. All cliche. I would have liked to do some more creative stuff. But I wanted to get some good safe ones in then can first. Then do the creative stuff. But the couple wore out before I could get to that.

Nice job, Steve. I’ve done quite a bit of this type of stuff (never engagement) for family over the years, mainly my kids and friends. I’m so focused on nailing focus, it’s hard for me to also think about posing, what the backgrounds look like, hand placement, etc. My wife is usually there to help, but critical failures aren’t noticed until it’s too late while I’m editing lol. This is definitely one of those areas it just takes practice
